Durham University is looking to appoint a multi-skilled Lab Technician to provide technical expertise to support their world-leading research in the Department of Engineering. Offered on a 12 month temporary contract, the role is full time and pays £28,929per annum.It is an exciting time to join this expanding team and make your mark, as the strategic vision for the department includes a growth plan of over 50% over the next five years, with a significant enhancement of the research challenge portfolio and a driveto enrich the undergraduate, postgraduate taught and postgraduate research provision.Essential Criteria Qualifications/Experience1. Five GCSE’s at least Grade C or level four (or equivalent) including English Language and Mathematics or a Post-16 qualification or equivalent experience.2. Industry or professional knowledge/recognition relevant to the role supported by relevant courses or certification.3. Experience of working in a team.4. Experience or ability to provide advice and guidance to a range of customers and colleagues.5. Knowledge and experience of monitoring own activities and others to ensure health and safety regulations are adhered to.6. Excellent organisational and co-ordination skills.7. Experience of working to deadlines.8. Experience in the design, maintenance and operation of electrical and mechanical systems.9. Experience of the fabrication, assembly and testing of electrical and mechanical equipment and components.Skills/Abilities/Knowledge10. Good spoken and written communication skills including the ability to develop effective working relationships, both internally and externally.11. Strong digital competence across a range digital tool including internet, email and Microsoft applications.12. Committed to continuing professional development.13. Ability to solve problems and decide on and plan appropriate solutions.14. Professional knowledge and expertise in one or more areas of technical specialism, and the application of skills to create, build, construct and realise new and innovative resources, equipment and research outputs.15. Demonstrable ability to deliver high precision technical skills and the operation of standard and complex scientific, technical and creative equipment.Desirable Criteria16. Experience in the use of data loggers to collect temperature, pressure, flowrate and power output data etc.17. Experience in writing LabView programmes.18.
