Job Description

St Johns College, Durham, are looking to appoint a qualified (or part-qualified) accountant to a new post within their finance department on a part-time (3 days per week), temporary (12 weeks) basis.JOB SUMMARY AND PURPOSEAs a valued member of the department, the postholder will be a key member of the finance team and will take a leading role in research post-award activities, including checking expenditure against grant terms and conditions. The postholder will also provideother financial administrative support as part of the finance team.KEY RESPONSIBILITIESReview and scrutinise terms and conditions of research grants, review and query expenditure where appropriate.  Create reporting templates for research grants. Undertake financial reporting to Principal Investigators and, where applicable, to funders forresearch grants held within college. Reviewing expenditure on grants ensuring these are in line with funder requirements. Undertake other duties appropriate to the level and purpose of the post, as agreed with the College Accountant.PERSON SPECIFICATION (ESSENTIAL)Qualified AccountantAdvanced Microsoft ExcelExperience within a busy customer- focussed environmentExperience of maintaining accurate electronic recordsExperience of working individually and as part of a teamAble to work with accuracy and attention to detailGCSE Grade C or equivalent in English and MathematicsAble to plan, prioritise and work independently with minimal supervisionExperience of working in financeA high level of accuracy in working with numerical and financial data, with excellent attention to detailExcellent interpersonal, organisational, oral and written communication skills.PERSON SPECIFICATION (DESIRABLE)Experience of working in a Higher Education settingExperience of using Sage 200.This vacancy is being advertised on behalf of Gem Partnership Ltd who are operating as an employment business.
