Job Description

Bring your clinical supervision expertise to the COVID-19 Vaccination Programme!NHS Professionals are looking for registered and unregistered individuals to be part of NHS Englands Vaccination Operational Support Teams (VOST) - regional mobile teams, part of the National Vaccination Programme. The VOST service provides system or regionalvaccination workforce that will work as a team to be deployed to where capacity is required for short time periods. The teams are designed to support operational resilience and increased levels of activity.As part of the VOST team, you will be traveling (own transport essential, mileage expenses will be paid) and working across various vaccinations sites within your selected region to support the delivery of COVID-19 vaccinations. You could be working at aVaccination Centre one day or a pop-up vaccination site in a remote community the next. The roles will not have a fixed location of work and are all roving. Therefore, it is important to have access to your own mode of transport, as some of the locations willnot be easily accessible by public transport.The ideal candidate can commit to regular shifts on an ongoing basis and will be comfortable travelling to work in different vaccination settings. You will be part of a small team of 6 that will include vaccinators, clinical supervisors and registered healthcareprofessionals. Shifts will be available depending on there being a fully staffed team ready to work. Please note, the shifts will vary in length from 6 - 12 hours and work will be provided in line with programme demand, which is not guaranteed. PLEASE NOTE:Minimum hours commitment is 16 hours.Clinical Supervisor (Immunisations)As a VOST Clinical Supervisor you be responsible for overseeing a team of Immunisers and Registered Healthcare Professionals.You will be responsible for, and be skilled in:

  • Undertake a clinical supervisory role, overseeing several immunisers, Band 5 Registered Healthcare Professionals (RHCP) and Draw-upper and post vaccination observation SJA volunteers, delivering a safe immunisation service, assisting to influence and facilitatechange within the setting and service areas.
  • Assist with the overall coordination of the VOST activity and day to day delivery of the vaccinations, ensuring clinic rooms and equipment within own area are prepared and sufficient stock of clinic supplies are available.
  • Supervise the pre-vaccination clinical assessments to confirm the correct vaccination, the consent agreements and consult on the provision of specialist advice on contra indications. Address any concerns that may arise regarding the vaccine and contra-indications.
  • Supervise the review of citizens medical history and address any potential adverse reaction risks; provide citizens with information on what to do in the event of adverse reactions.
  • Supervise and coordinate the vaccine preparation (drawing-up, ensuring correct storage and providing injections to the vaccination station).
  • Supervise vaccination delivery (oversee paperwork and vaccine confirmation activity, ensure national guidelines are respected regarding PPE, clinical and non-clinical waste, sanitisation).
  • Supervise the vaccinators and HC Assistants in the delivery of vaccinations.
  • Exchange PPE equipment if the individual has come into contact with a patient when overseeing the vaccination process.
  • Supervise the configuration of the vaccination pod (layout, equipment, PPE, consumables, vaccine stocks, sanitisation and waste materials) and vaccine station (vaccine, vaccine batch numbers recorded, staff member administrating vaccination, date and siteconfirmation).
  • May be required to assess and sign-off competence training of new vaccinators.
  • Coordinate the infection control and waste disposal, ensuring that all activities are adhered to the highest H&S standards.
