A fantastic opportunity for a Chief Engineer to join a global leading business based within the Durham area.Client DetailsBased close to the Durham area, my client are a global engineering leader in design, manufacturing and supplying of the product they specialise in with a strong customer base such as the British Ministry of Defence, other nations ministries of defence, and international defence contractors such as BAE Systems and General Dynamics.DescriptionThe Chief Engineer role is a senior leadership position to be based on site with a focus on holding full responsibility for the technical output of the business.It is a strategic position that requires a unique blend of technical capability, leadership skills and commercial understanding.Leading the technical divisions comprising of R&D, Design, Product Qualification and Testing as well as managing various university funded KTPs enabling adoption of cutting edge technologies the Chief Engineer will have ultimate responsibility for setting the technical direction of the business.In addition, the Chief Engineer will be responsible for maintaining an expert level of knowledge in the market and attend regular events to ensure any transferable technology is thoroughly reviewed and adopted where appropriate.ProfileThe successful Chief Engineer will ideally be a Chartered Engineer, with a strong technical track record of delivering complex mechanical systems into highly regulated industries.The successful candidate will be able to identify commercially beneficial development opportunities and lead their team (adding structure / resource where required) to new product developments to help exploit this.Experience with as many of the following fundamental engineering principles would be highly advantageous: Polymer Science, Metallurgy, Composite materials, Motors and Drive systems,CNC Machining, Casting / Forging and Welding / Fabrication. Experience with Hydraulics and gear sizing would also be welcome.In addition you will be comfortable with utilising engineering tools such as: CAD (especially Creo Elements 3D), CAE tools such as Ansys Mechanical for FEA and CES Selector for Materials.You will be a proven leader of a varied team of technical professionals including Design Engineers, Material Scientists, IT/ Simulation Specialists, Test Engineers and Production Engineers.Job OfferCompetitive salary, benefits and global development opportunities available.
