Job Description

Our clients are a family-owned fashion business, with an environmentally sustainable ethos based in the heart of the beautiful Exmoor National Park. Due to continued growth in demand they are seeking to appoint a Knitwear Artist Technician to join their small, specialised team.This is a rare opportunity for any country loving, climate-conscious creative who has a passion for the environment and fashion, and who can combine the qualifications, expertise and personal focus to succeed in this role.The successful candidate will possess a minimum of BA in Fashion or Knitwear Design, be a proficient user of Shima Seiki Apex 3 programmes for Shima Seiki machine operations and have some experience of production knitting (ideally Fully Fashioned or Protti Rib).Additionally, they are looking for a candidate who fulfils the following requirements:

  • Has an in-depth knowledge of yarns, knit gauges and structures, in particular alpaca yarns;
  • Is highly creative and trend-driven with a true connection to knitwear design;
  • Is in possession of excellent CAD skills (including use of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator);
  • Is a confident machine operator, well-versed in the maintenance of Shima Seiki machines;
  • Has a good understanding of garment construction and knitwear manufacturing methods (including linking knitwear on commercial machines);
  • Is competent at designing jacquards, intarsias and other knit structures;
  • Has strong communication and customer service skills; the ability to communicate clearly in English is a must as the role will involve providing training to young people who would like to learn knitwear programming machine operations and finishing skills;
  • Is motivated, well organised and can work without supervision.
  • This position is open to any postgraduate with around 1-3 years work experience.Training with / on other performance materials, yarns, and methods of production will provided once the Knitwear Artist Technician is in post. Required skills
