Well-behaved dogs are welcome in our office, so we often go out for lunchtime walks to enjoy the clean country air, recharge and enjoy Exmoor’s beauty; indeed, as an Assistant Ranger, you will often be out in the great outdoors.The RoleAs an Assistant Ranger, you will ensure that everyone feels welcome to the National Park and you will help people to both enjoy and understand the special qualities of Exmoor.You will help ensure that any negative impacts people can have are kept to a minimum, for the benefit of all who work in, visit and love Exmoor. You will speak with visitors to explain codes of good practice and restrictions as necessary, as well as carrying out site checks, clearing litter etc.Reporting to the Access and Recreation Manager, you will:- Lead on inspections of our public paths and access network and record information in a variety of formats, making use of images, video, GIS and specialist equipment- Support education activities and programmes, working closely with the Education Team- Facilitate volunteer activities and programmes, for example practical projects, conservation work, surveys and guides- Contribute to our walks, events and activities programme- Develop written materials and other content to support information and interpretationAbout YouTo join us as an Assistant Ranger, you’ll need:- A qualification in an environmental or countryside management discipline at HND (ideally degree) or equivalent level- Experience in land management, recreation, and education/interpretation- An ability to understand and work with technical documents and information- Knowledge and experience of Health and Safety legislation and its application, including carrying out risk assessments- A valid full driving licenceOther organisations may call this role Ranger, Associate Ranger, Deputy Ranger, Land Ranger, Park Ranger, National Park Ranger, Community Ranger, or Countryside Ranger.The closing date for applications is the 16th November 2020.As a service provider and local employer, Exmoor National Park Authority is committed to promoting equal opportunities and tackling social exclusion in everything it does.
