Job Description

Manual GrinderBased in Dorking, SurreyDay shift - Mon - Thursday 7am-3.30pm & Friday 7am-12pmPermanent position - Overtime availableJob DescriptionMy client is a growing precision engineering firm which operates Fabrication, CNC Machining and Assembly workshops. We are looking to employ an experienced, highly organised and pro-active Tool Maker/ Grinder, reporting to the area Team Leader & Production Manager. The candidate will be responsible for the setup and precision grinding (cylindrical & some surface) of parts in accordance with the production schedule, performing preventive maintenance and general organisation and housekeeping of the area. You will will also need to be flexible enough to assist with other functions when required. The ideal candidate is a diligent, skilled and organised machine operator who has a sound understanding of precision manufacturing & grinding to micron tolerances, wanting to grow with an ambitious company.Key Authorities and Responsibilities:

  • Setup and grind precision, small batch parts on Jones & Shipman & Myford manual cylindrical & surface grinding machines (primarily cylindrical grinding) typically to tolerances of +/- .001mm
  • Produce components to drawing specification and required quality standards, with a full understanding of interpreting engineering drawings & surface finishes
  • Change & redress grinding wheels (certification required)
  • Self inspection to drawing
  • Maintain machines, tooling and good housekeeping at all times
  • Organise area & tooling to maximise productivity
  • Operate plant equipment to procedures and health and safety guidelines
  • Maintain all health and safety disciplines
  • Willingness to participate in improvement activities across the business
  • Assist in problem solving when issues arise
  • Must embrace change and be willing to adopt new skills to support all areas of the business
  • To be flexible in a small team oriented environment
  • Experience of Manual/CNC Turning & Milling a distinct advantage
    • Qualifications, Experience, Skills & Ability:
  • Experienced Tool Maker/Manual Grinder (brass, aluminium, mild & stainless steel)
  • Ideally apprentice trained or with a craft/technician qualification
  • To be able to read, understand & follow engineering drawings and procedures
  • Proficient using measuring equipment
  • Show attention to detail & have a quality mindset
  • Must possess a positive ‘can do’ attitude
  • Must have the ability to work without supervision & able to work with others in a small team environment
  • Must be prepared to undertake all reasonable requests as determined by the business needs
  • Strong organisational & housekeeping standards, experience of working with 5S methodology an advantage
