Job Description

I am currently recruiting for a Principal Planning Officer to work on behalf of my client, a leading public sector organisation based in Doncaster.Your role will be within the Development Management team and will involve progressing major planning applications but also in addition signing off decisions under delegated powers for minor applications.Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To assist in the delivery of Planning Services by providing clear, effective advice onDevelopment Management and Planning Policy to achieve borough, corporate andservice priorities.
  • To be responsible for own case load of major and other planning applications and todetermine all planning applications and other matters in accordance with theorganisations approved scheme of delegation.
  • To develop and implement statutory and non-statutory policy and strategy, includingall aspects of statutory planning policy including the preparation of evidencedocuments, data analysis and research and the preparation/review of developmentplans including Neighbourhood Plans
  • Prepare and advise on CIL/s106 matters including policy and implementation.
  • To engage in pre-application discussions and negotiations with developers to identifyrequirements, policy interpretation and ways to improve proposals.
  • To be the expert witness in connection with planning/enforcement appealsand/or examinations in public.
  • To support and advise on the planning enforcement process.
  • To support and represent the Planning Services Management Team as required.
Specialist Skills and Knowledge:
  • Planning qualification to degree level (or equivalent) and full membership of the RTPI(or clear evidence of working towards full membership) and evidence of continuingprofessional development.
  • Local Authority experience working on Policy Planning, relating to the production ofpolicy documents for Local Plans and/or experience of dealing with major planningapplications and/or preparing and presenting evidence at appeals and/or Local Planor other plan-making examinations.
  • Ability to clearly write and present reports and evidence on complex planningmatters.Experience of some level of supervision/management.
The hours of work are full time and from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday with some flexibility.The annual salary is between £33,513£37,588.Please apply today for the chance of an immediate interview.
