Academics Ltd are looking for 2 passionate, fun and empathic TAs to work within an Independent school who have 25 young people on roll. This school is a Special school serving students aged between 7 and 16 years who have a primary need of SEMH. All youngpeople have an EHCP, and experience Attachment, Trauma, or ASD related issues; all are working significantly below Age-Related Expectations. Our students access a bespoke Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum including English, Maths and various adaptedNational Curriculum subjects. Outdoor Education plays a large role in our curriculum as does Sport and Vocational Learning. This school employs an in-house Speech and Language Therapist, Creative Arts Psychotherapist, ELSA, Trauma-Informed Practitioner, andvarious other Professionals.The school:We are in the process of developing our outdoor education offer, alongside practical learning including horticulture, woodwork, and construction-type activities, therefore, experience in one or more of these areas in essential. The ability to follow PositiveBehaviour Management strategies with our young people is paramount, while a great sense of humour is essential. We are not a PRU and, although our young people have displayed extremely challenging behaviours in mainstream settings, we find our approach veryquickly decreases their anxieties and encourages self-regulation of their emotions.We are situated in a tranquil, semi-rural location with large private gardens. The building is designed to facilitate nurture group teaching practices, and outdoor education.To fulfil this role, you will need to have bucket loads of enthusiasm, excellent communication and listening skills; the ability to inspire, motivate and gain trust; be computer literate and have good organisational and planning skills. You must be ableto set and maintain boundaries with our young people through relationships of trust and mutual respect, not through sanctions. We facilitate this relational approach through our very high staff ratio of 1:1, and our trauma-informed ethos.All young people are transported to and from home by their mentor, so a full Driving Licence and own car is essential for this role.The successful candidate will have an excellent understanding of the challenges faced by our students, and demonstrate the empathy, patience and compassion required to work with extremely vulnerable young people and their families. You will be committedto working in partnership with students, parents, commissioners, and external agencies to ensure that all our young people receive the individual support they deserve.We acknowledge the importance of regular CPD, therefore, we offer all employees extensive online and face-to-face training.
