Job Description

The Standard Patent Glazing Co Ltd, the UK’s longest-established Patent Glazing Company, has an exciting opportunity for a Technical Estimator / Trainee Estimator to join the team based in Dewsbury.Founded in 1902, we are recognised as market leaders in this field. We specialise in the design, manufacture and installation of Roof Glazing systems, Skylights and Rooflights for contracts throughout the UK. Examples of our finished work can be found on many of todays prestigious buildings, Railway Stations, schools and shopping centres.About the role:We are looking for an experienced Estimator to join our very busy, small Estimating Team to work on some of the most demanding and largest roof patent glazing projects in the UK. Reporting to the Commercial Director, you will be involved in the estimating of our bespoke aluminium and steel framed patent glazing systems on commercial and domestic projects that range in value from £1K to £2m.We are also willing to consider applications from highly motivated, intelligent and ambitious individuals with Construction Qualifications who do not currently possess sufficient experience in the glazing industry as full training will be given to the successful applicant.Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing tender documents, drawings and specifications sent to us by Principal Contractors or Architects and costing these items using bespoke software
  • Reading and understanding specifications
  • Obtaining prices from suppliers for items such as glass, powder coating, automatic gear, smoke vents
  • Liaising with Principal Contractors
  • Liaising with other members of staff internally
  • Ensuring project deadlines are met
  • Submitting final quotations and following up with calls to contractors
  • Attending meetings internally and externally when required
    • About you:
  • Educated to A level standard or higher
  • English Language and Maths qualifications essential
  • Construction qualifications preferred
  • Estimating experience in architectural aluminum/glazing industry preferred
  • Technical knowledge of glazing systems, glass types and Building Regulations
  • Full Clean UK Driving Licence
  • CSCS Card (preferred)
  • Experience with pricing aluminium glazing systems
  • Very competent with the use of computers and software
  • Extremely high attention to detail and accurate checking of your own work
  • Understanding of Tendering Documents and the Tendering process
  • Ability to understand and interpret Architectural Drawings and material specifications
  • Highly motivated to learn quickly and absorb information
  • Excellent written, organisational and communication skills
  • Professional manner on the telephone and in-person
  • Ability to deal on a professional level with Principal Contractors, Architects and Domestic Clients
  • Work well under pressure and ability to prioritise your workload
  • Ability to work as part of a team and work alone as and when required
  • Strong work ethic
  • Highly competent in Microsoft Excel (Visual Basic/Macro writing skills preferred)
  • Knowledge of CAD software an advantage
  • Good timekeeping
