Job Description

Venn GroupSenior Environmental Health PhysicistRecruitment Agency Reference: 7005560DevonportContract – 6 Months initiallyHourly Rate (DOE)A position has arisen for a Senior Environmental Health Physicist (Radiation Protection Technical Authority) to join a Defence client of ours at HMNB Devonport for a 6 month contract, with likelihood of extension thereafter.Successful candidates must satisfy security criteriaAs a Senior Health Physicist (Environment) you’ll be responsible for:

  • Providing the operations team with specialist knowledge and support relating to nuclear and radiological safety
  • Becoming the lead on a number of environmental radiation protection projects
  • Ensuring compliance with statutory legislation, including the Environmental Permitting Regulations, and the terms of the site licence
  • Delivering nuclear safety cases and Best Available Technique assessments;
  • Developing and implement nuclear safety processes and standards and provide technical advice on nuclear safety assessment processes and policy.
  • Supporting both new-build infrastructure, as well as projects relating to the development of existing dockyard and naval base assets, thus helping us to create the naval base and dockyard of the future, supporting the Royal Navy’s current submarine fleets and ready to receive the next generation of naval platforms
    • Required qualifications:
  • Hold a Science Degree in Radiation Protection, or a Science, Engineering or Mathematics Degree with relevant Radiation Protection experience
  • Be a Chartered Radiation Protection Professional (or equivalent) or willing to work towards this
  • You should also hold, or be working towards, Radioactive Waste Advisor accreditation
    • The successful candidates should have the following experience:
  • Environmental Permitting and Radioactive Waste Management on Nuclear Licenced Sites
  • Nuclear facility licensing and authorisation
  • Provision of Radiation Protection advice within an operational environment
  • Preparation of Radiation Protection documentation in the support of safety case submissions
  • Generation and maintenance of radioactive waste assessments including the application of BAT
  • Lastly, you’ll need strong interpersonal and effective communication skills (both verbal and written) and the ability to confidently interface with Stakeholders at all levels within the organisation, up to Board Level
