Job Description

As a member of the wider technical/quality team providing metallurgical support to the manufacturing business, ensuring new parts and processes are developed to be robust and repeatable while at the same time meeting all customer flow down requirements.To continuously improve existing products and processes to result in higher levels of product right first time throughout the facility.Client DetailsFrom aerospace and energy production, to underground mining, off-highway vehicles and space launch programs we have been forging for more than 100 years.Across established sites in the UK and USA, manufacturing shafts, rings, discs, asymmetric forgings and extruded cylinders in a range of titanium, nickel, aluminium, copper and steel alloys. Combined with our advanced forging capabilities, co-located with heat treatment, machining and a world-class materials testing and certification lab; from billet to finished,tested forging.Description

  • Control the metallurgical manufacturing process covering a broad range of materials and products.
  • Design, improve and carry put problem solving on manufacturing processes and products.
  • Communicate with customer on technical matters especially process changes needed to improve product compliance and disposition of non-conforming parts submitted via concession/production permit.
  • Deal with enquiries for part manufacture and generate provisional routes for quotation purposes.
  • Maintain current and new methods of manufacture and subsequent customer approvals
  • Maintain records, review and approve appropriate metallurgical data and statistical data.
  • Review customer specifications and drawings and approve for release of manufacture.
  • Carry out internal and external audits.
  • Define heat treatment and forging temperatures.
  • Investigate the route cause of non-conformances on products using methods such as 8D, 5 Whys etc when appropriate.
  • New parts launch and substantiation (APQP PPAP).
  • Metallurgical investigations and generation of technical reports.
  • Control Technical Process Building in Tropos - business management system for new and amended process routes.
  • Manage the technical requirements relative to the procurement of raw material
Profile
  • Degree/Masters/PhD qualified in Metallurgy or similar Engineering discipline.
  • Experience with alloys and materials used in aerospace products ideal.
  • Experience in hot deformation processes and heat treatment of a range of materials ideal.
  • Excellent IT skills
