Job Description

An opportunity has arisen for a chemistry or environmental science graduate to join a leading waste management company as a site chemist at their facility in Derbyshire. As a site chemist you will be responsible for managing inbound waste materials, testing & processing before dispatch using test methods including Titrations, pH testing, testing for oxidising agents and water in solvents. To be successful you should ideally hold a relevant degree in a chemistry or environmental discipline, possess strong communication skills and a keen interest in the environmental sector. Site Chemist Responsibilities:

  • Chemical waste acceptance and conformance checks.
  • Waste analysis and labelling of chemicals according to CLP/GHS.
  • Representative sampling of bulk hazardous and non-hazardous materials.
  • Reactivity assessment and solvent and acid bulking.
  • Using test strips and papers to analyse chemical waste for metals, ion content or chemical properties such as pH, oxidising properties or water content.
  • Preparation of standard solutions, serial dilutions and filtration.
  • Involvement in processing APC residue and general acidic waste by Treatment Process and Above Ground Mixer.
  • Titrations to check acidity and alkalinity of waste materials.
  • Sampling, analysing and overseeing the tipping of bulk loads of powders and waste acids.
  • Basic processing of containerised waste, including pumping liquids to tanks.
    • Site Chemist Requirements:
  • Hold a BSc in a Scientific Discipline (Chemistry or Environmental Science, minimum requirement HNC)
  • Possess a keen interest in the environmental and waste management sector.
  • Good work ethic.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Hands-on approach to your work; capable of working outdoors
  • Ability to work well both within a team and to your own initiative.
