Job Description JR6081546 Materials and Chemistry EngineerDerby, UK.We power the UKs nuclear underwater defences.Our market-leading position in submarine propulsion systems encompasses everything from design and procurement to manufacture and in-service support.For the last 60 years we have designed, supplied and supported the nuclear propulsion plant that provides power for all of the UK Royal Navys nuclear submarines.A workforce of approximately 3500, based primarily in Derby, manage these assets across their full lifecycle. This includes providing frontline support across the world for Royal Navy submarine reactor plant equipment from the Companys OperationsCentre in Derby.The Role:A truly unique Materials and Chemistry Opportunities has arisen in our Submarines business to work in a challenging and exciting environment.We are a nuclear business is a leader in propulsion system design and development for the Royal Navys nuclear submarine fleet and the sole provider and technical authority, managing all aspects of plant design, safety, manufacture, performance, and through-lifesupport. With our nuclear business growing into new and exciting ventures in land, sea and space we are looking to develop and enhance our current capability to deliver future opportunities.Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • Ideally, you will have experience in one of the following disciplines, but this does not need to be limited to Submarines.
  • We are interested in candidates who come from industries such such as Petro-Chemical, Marine, Automotive, Civil Nuclear, Aerospace and Oil & Gas with experience working in Plant & Process Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Corrosion , Fatigue, Fracture, NovelWelding techniques, Materials Manufacture, Surface Engineering.
  • Materials of particular interest include Stainless Steel, Low Alloy Steels, Nickels, Composites and Titanium
  • We would also welcome applications from people with team leadership experience.
  • It is preferable that you are Degree Qualified or Apprentice Trained in a relevant engineering discipline, however this is not essential as experience is equally beneficial.
