Job Description

Are you an experienced Human Factors Engineer passionate about working with cutting edge technology supporting safety critical solutions with the Defence sector If so, the following permanent role might be for you!My client is a market leader and well known brand operating within the Submarines business responsible for the design, manufacture, supply and through-life support of nuclear propulsion-related products and systems in support of the Royal Navys submarinefleet.As a member of their Human Factors Team, the successful candidate will play a key role in the delivery of work packages in support of design and safety assurance programmes for the Royal Navys current and future nuclear submarine fleet.You will be involved in undertaking assessments of human interactions with complex systems across the various phases of their product lifecycle, from design and build to plant operation aboard a submarine. As somebody who can integrate within engineeringteams and possesses the ability to interpret engineering design solutions, you will drive to ensure that Human Factors is at the heart of a safe and operable system.You will be responsible for:

  • Contributing to nuclear system designs and safety cases, and to reviews of existing designs
  • Ensuring timely Human Factors integration into equipment and system design projects
  • Interfacing with the safety and engineering teams to ensure the incorporation of Human Factors requirements in design
  • Preparing Human Factors documentation demonstrating the role of the operator in maintaining safe operation
  • Undertaking Human Factors assessments such as task analysis to inform design and support both qualitative and quantitative human error assessment.
  • Planning and conducting user trials to assess developing design and optimise user interaction
  • Developing and assessing Human Machine Interface (HMI).
  • Applying anthropometry and assessment of spatial layout design including working with 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools.
You:
  • Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors (CIEHF) accredited degree.
  • Demonstrable ability to work in multidisciplinary teams to tight deadlines.
  • Understanding of the role of Human Factors in complex and safety-critical systems.
  • Ability to provide clear, concise and accurate assessments and to communicate ideas and important issues clearly, both in writing and verbally.
  • Appreciation of the role of Human Factors and human reliability as part of safety cases would be an advantage.
  • Experience in the design or operation of Naval Reactor Plant.
