Job Description

Head of Manufacturing Derby£55,000 - £60,000PermanentI am currently working with a market leading company based in Derby to recruit for a Head of Manufacturing on a full time, permanent basis.You will lead the manufacturing function within budget and output targets to meet customer requirements and standards. Contribute to the creation and implementation of best practice manufacturing vision, strategy, policies, processes, and procedures to aidand improve operational performance. Identify business improvement opportunities within the organisation. Full accountability for ensuring safety, quality, cost, and production volumes are met.Responsible for developing an enthusiastic, motivated, and flexible team by building working relationships and ensuring efficient and effective cleanroom operations, as well as Health, Safety and Environmental requirements are adhered to. Manage the team onbest practice and establish standard policies and procedures whilst also mentoring and leading teams. Implement and manage continuous improvement and modern manufacturing principals by highlighting deficiencies, identifying trends, and driving positive changein working practices, procedures, or training.Role & Responsibilities:Responsible for daily operations in extrusion, injection moulding, manufacturing assembly, conversion, and packaging activities.Responsible for plant production, financial performance, meeting customer requirements and maintaining the orderly and productive operation of planned activities.Ensure that the function operates in accordance with any health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of staff and visitors.Leads and promotes a company culture that encourages top performance and high morale.Develop, implement, and review operational policies, procedures, including efficient equipment utilisation to ensure that target productivity levels are achieved daily.Drive process improvements on Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) by appropriate data analysis.Ensures that the Quality Management System and strict quality standards are adhered to in all areas of manufacturing.Works closely with QA/RA on root cause analysis, corrective and preventive actions, bioburden management, cleanliness of clean room(s) and validation support.Responsible for the effectiveness of the Corrective Action/Preventive Action process for the department; perform and lead root cause analysis to resolve problems and prevent recurrence.Communicate customer issues with operations team and devise ways of improving customer satisfaction, including resolving problems and complaints.Responsible for budgeting, including Capital Expenditure, departmental reporting, and monitoring while ensuring costs are managed effectively.Identify and deploy the technical skill sets, resource levels and systems to deliver projects, including the engagement of external resources as required.Coordinates activities that affect operational decisions and business requirements.Manages order book against labour ensuring that targets are met on a cost-effective basis and the business is adequately resourced.Works closely with General Mgr. and Operations Leadership planning for short and long-term business goals.Assist HR as required with recruiting, employee issues, contracts, etc.Works closely with Planning Mgr. to resolve day-to-day bottlenecks, shortages, or inefficiencies in production.Promotes a safety first culture by maintaining a safe and healthy work environment by establishing, following, and enforcing standards and procedures that comply with legal regulations.Conduct risk assessments of processes and tasks in the department.Corroborate with HSE Mgr. to conduct regular H&S audits/inspections of areas of responsibility to ensure compliance with safe systems of work.Collaborates with Engineering and Maintenance Mgr. to reduce line downtime, drive continuous improvement in SMED and OEE, while supporting TMP initiatives.Ensuring that communication between departments is ongoing and effective to maintain an environment of continuous improvement.Ideal Candidate & People ManagementLean experience essentialProven experience in a similar role Ability to lead large and engage positively with teamsManage, coach, and develop a high performing manufacturing team that meets agreed objectives, delivers best practice results and continuous improvementsSet department objectives/KPIs and review and assess ongoing performance of direct reportsCommunicate KPIs so that each employee is aware and understands the standards, goals and behaviours expected of themManage and lead the team, ensuring adequate staffing levels, managing holiday allowances, recruitment, training, development, appraisal, attendance, disciplinary issues, and daily supervision to maximise efficient productivityConsistently promote high standards through personal example Motivate and coach the team to operational successProvide technical expertise to the teamMonitor and report on the completion of tasks and ensure good performance is recordon appropriate systems, taking necessary action if performance is sub-standardIdentify any skills gaps in the department and implement a training programme to ensure adequate training of staff and managers.Manage contractors on site to ensure they meet legal and company requirementsMacildowie is a specialist recruitment consultancy with a rich history of enhancing the careers of professionals across the Midlands and the Northern Home Counties.
