Job Description

My client is looking to recruit an Engineering Manager.The role reports to the Site Director and is directly responsible for managing the Engineering and Maintenance Department. You will provide effective leadership and set goals for the department. You will also support, encourage and develop departmental membersin order to maximise individual and departmental potential.You will be an experienced leader with work experience gained in operational and production management, in a high volume, process driven manufacturing environment.Daily meeting with Maintenance Coordinator and Systems Engineer to discuss problems and issues, deployment of staff etc.Meetings with Site Director, Operations Manager and Lean Manufacturing Manager to discuss operational matters.Production of departmental report and attendance at monthly management meeting.Regular meetings / communication throughout working day to immediate reports to set clear and specific objectives and review plant and personnel performance.Regular meetings / communication throughout day to immediate superior (Site Director) to report problems & proposed solutions, and to receive guidance and instructions as necessary.Regular meetings and communications throughout day as necessary to other department heads, staff etc.Ensure adequate communications within department and between department and others.Briefing department personnel on all suitable subjects to keep fully informed of all relevant matters (including routine monthly briefing)Operational DutiesReview performance of all plant and equipment on site.Ensure all necessary engineering works are taken to maximise operational availability and production rates.Undertake project management duties, ensuring compliance with CDM and other relevant statutory legislation.Contribute (manage, when appropriate) to teams and committees formed to investigate and implement improvements to equipment and practices around site.Arrange the commissioning of new equipmentSupport Maintenance Coordinators (also Maintenance Planning Manager, Systems Engineers and Maintenance Technicians) to ensure that operational activities are undertaken according to priorities, schedules and procedures in a safe and efficient manner.Arrange and manage use of contractors on site.Ensure that the department operates with due regard to health, safety, quality, and environmental requirements.Provide technical support in any suitable area including involvement in the planning and utilisation of resourcesReview stores stock holdings; identify critical spares requirements and work together with Purchasing Manager and Company Accountant to optimise engineering storesManage recruitment, training, and development of people to maintain a high standard within the department.Develop person specifications for vacancies.Carry out performance reviews for direct reports. Provide constructive feedback, set realistic targets and goals, recognise and maximise their contribution to the organisation.Counsel and coach as required anyone within the department, or persons from other departments by arrangement and agreement with their department head.Identify and resolve poor performance.Communicate the business strategy and goals of the organisation using appropriate language.Actively encourage participation and involvement in the business improvement process.Review and implement quality, environment, energy efficiency and health and safety programmes, including training, as a member of the management team.Arrange and manage the testing and calibration of measurement and test equipment in accordance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, BS 45001 and ISO 50001 requirements.Produce (and ensure adherence to) specification and safety standards for engineering equipment and contracted engineering work (together with other managers where appropriate).Budgets and Cost ManagementIdeally you will be from within a raw materials industry that produces a product and include furnace experience. This could include Chemicals, Polymers, Engineering, and other related Manufacturing sectors.Ability to lead, motivate and develop individual team members into a highly functional team to achieve the goals of the business;Exposure to first class manufacturing systems and processes, ensuring daily operational standards are maintained;Well versed in production management and relevant methodologies gained from within a continuous process environment;Able to demonstrate an ability to increase OEE rates by permanently eliminating time losses on main processing plant and machinery.Ability to demonstrate an excellent pedigree in quality and environmental standards.* Sound knowledge of health and safety theory and practice with the ability to apply this to provide workable solutions;Strong leadership acumen.
