Job Description

Interventional RadiologyBand 5 Staff Nurse/Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) Full Time37.5 hours/week with on call commitmentsAre you looking to join a team who are world leaders in innovative radiological interventions If so, whether you are wanting to commence your nursing/ODP career in radiology or seeking an opportunity to join this progressive unit to further your radiology experience, then please read on as King’s College Hospital wants to invest in YOU.King’s College Hospital Interventional Radiology (IR) department at the Denmark Hill site are currently seeking applications from dedicated registered nurses OR operating department practitioners with an interest in radiology to join our motivated, friendly and supportive team.We can offer you the opportunity of working within all different clinical areas in the department, including the Angio suite, CT scan, Ultrasound and Recovery. Our Education Team provides structured support to all staff and our development programmes are well established, including courses affiliated to King’s College London.The team is looking for an enthusiastic Band 5 staff nurse/ODP to join the service.We would be very pleased to welcome applications from experienced nurses/ODPs with a background in IR, who wish to develop their careers in this dynamic and exciting environment that provides a pro-active approach to Radiology. We would be very pleased to welcome applications from Nurses and ODP’s with at least 6 months experience in an acute setting.The IR department runs a day time service from Monday to Friday with varying shift patterns. With training, the post holder will also be expected to provide cover for our 24 hour on call service, including weekends and bank holidays. The department takes into consideration flexible working patterns in line with the Trust’s policy.It would be an advantage to have previous radiology, theatre scrub or recovery experience, but is not essential. The B5 role includes scrub and circulating procedures in the interventional room and support of other areas in the department including the recovery area. With further training the role would lead to involvement in the administration of intravenous conscious sedation, requiring advanced monitoring of patients during procedures.You would also be involved in the care and management of patients having ultrasound guided procedures, for both inpatient and day cases. In CT, patients have CT guided Radiofrequency Ablations (RFA), Microwave Ablation and Nanoknife procedures, which involves working the anaesthetic team.There will be opportunities to develop skills in cannulation and venepuncture, which is a core element of the Band 5 role.
