Job Description

King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is one of the UK’s largest and busiest teaching Trusts with a turnover of £1 billion, 1.5 million patient contacts a year and more than 12,800 staff based across 5 main sites in South East London. The Trust provides a full range of local hospital services across its different sites, and specialist services from King’s College Hospital (KCH) sites at Denmark Hill in Camberwell and at the Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH) site in the London Borough of Bromley.An opportunity has arisen for an experienced, motivated and innovative Band 5 on the stroke unit at Kings College University Hospital.The Stroke Unit is located in the main acute hospital with easy access to the emergency department, neuro imaging and other clinical diagnostic facilities. There are currently 12 available monitored beds with facilities for physiological monitoring and caring for post-thrombolysis patients and 17 stroke rehabilitation beds.We aim to provide a consistent, high quality pathway in line with local and National policies, practices and collaborations to provide optimal, evidence based and cutting edge stroke careCare is provided in a seamless fashion with patients being admitted to the Hyper acute stroke unit and then progressing during their stay to discharge or Stroke Rehabilitation either with in Kings or at the patients local hospital.The Kings College Hyper acute Stroke unit is recognised nationally and internationally as one of the eight stroke centres within the London stroke network offering thrombolysis and thrombectomy care.ResearchStroke research is undertaken at the King’s College Hospital London and is in collaboration with research team. Which has provided the evidence base for guidelines on stroke management nationally and internationallyTraining and educationThere is a robust teaching programme in line with the standards set in the National Service Framework and National Clinical Guidelines for Stroke. This is in conjunction with all nursing staff needing to undertake the Pan London Stroke Competency Document and assessment when they join the unit.The ward manager and matron are visible to promote standards of care and positive patient experience.The consultant nurse is based at Kings College hospital London and spends time on the unit offering on site practical help and support for all new staff, we also have a dedicated stroke practice facilitator to help with supporting the stroke education pathway, clinical supervision, training and access to academic courses.We are looking for a forward thinking practitioner who wants to make a difference for patients who have a stroke.There is a very strong and stable team of clinicians, therapists and senior nursing staff in the unit that has both experience and clinical expertise.
