PALS AdvisorThis post would ideally suit someone who is keen to work with service users, carers and families, listen to their concerns, views and experiences, help them navigate the Trust’s services, liaise with a range of mental health professionals, provide them with information and advice in order to resolve their enquiries in a timely and effective way. This post, based at the Maudsley Hospital, would be advantageous to those with a psychology background with an interest in developing their knowledge of mental health services through working with the patients, carers, members of the public and other health professionals who contact the PALS service for advise.PALS provide advice and liaison support to patients, relatives, carers, the general public and other agencies. Frequently PALS act as the first point of contact with the Trust and as such play a key role that impacts upon all areas of the organisation.The PALS Advisor will work as part of a small team providing on the spot help to enquirers, negotiate timely solutions and provide speedy resolutions to people’s problems. They will be responsible for assisting enquirers to explore their issues and identify appropriate ways of resolving them. This will require they work positively with enquirers who may sometimes be in severe distress. PALS will signpost enquirers to independent advice and advocacy support from local and national providers. The PALS Advisor will provide accurate information to patients, carers and families about the Trust’s services and health related issues.
