About the team:Psychology in Hostels Service is an innovative award-winning hostel-based specialist homeless psychology service for clients with complex mental health needs. This post is part of an exciting expansion of the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM) service commissioned by Westminster City Council, which for the past 8 years has been pioneering in the development of ‘Psychologically Informed Environments’ (PIE) delivering ‘Trauma Informed Approaches’ in select homeless hostels across Lambeth, Greenwich and Westminster. The Psychology in Hostels (PiH) service is provided by SLaM in close partnership with a selection of third sector charity hostel providers, the London Borough of Lambeth and Westminster City Council. The client group experience multiple disadvantage and have high levels of complex trauma and interpersonal difficulties coupled with substance misuse issues, anti-social behaviour, self-harm and often an offending history. A PIE takes into consideration how the psychological and emotional needs of the clients are affected by the environments they inhabit; the approach adopted by hostel and outreach staff, training and support offered; the psychology specific interventions delivered and the integration of psychological and trauma informed approaches to the design of services. The current PIE psychology model uses Mentalization-Based Treatment (MBT) as well as other evidence-based treatments for working with complex needs populations (Incl. DBT, CBT, Psychodynamic, Narrative & Systemic). Here we aim to facilitate recovery by improving mental health and wellbeing, working with anti-social and chaotic behaviours, increasing engagement, reducing repeated evictions and abandonments and other negative outcomes for the clients.About the role:This Westminster role will sit within a wider Psychology in Hostels team based across Westminster and Lambeth, which includes: several Trainee Clinical Psychologists, an Art Therapist, three Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologists, four Specialist Clinical Psychologists and a (Principal) Clinical Lead and Head of Service. The Service is also supported by SLaM operational and management structures. The postholders will:
