Job Description

Our client is the UKs largest university and a world leader in flexible part-time education. Combining a mission to widen access to higher education with research excellence, they are committed to transforming lives through education.They are looking to recruit a permanent Planning Manager to join their Estates Team.Paying between £34,304 - £36,382pa dependent on experience, with yearly incremental increases upto £40,297pa. This role is working a 37 hour week at the Wellingborough Warehouse.The Open University Warehouse, Distribution and Purchasing Services (WDPS) operation based in Wellingborough is responsible for the storage, assembly and delivery of educational materials to over 200,000 students, both UK and international.The roleThe Planning Manager who will support the Manager in managing the Universitys planning, assembly and logistic requirements for the timely delivery of physical module learning materials. This varied role will encompass all aspects of productionplanning. Anticipating bottlenecks will be key to delivering materials, correct and on time for study start date. Developing, adapting and following process flow, is essential to maintaining quality throughout the chain and avoiding unnecessary delays. Therewill be line management and development of a team, and you will hold a key strategic position in the on-going improvement and development of Warehouse, Distribution and Purchasing Services.Skills and experience

  • High level knowledge of production planning and supply chain activities.
  • Track record of delivering products and services within an agreed timeline
  • Competent in a range of first line management skills including recruitment, interviewing, appraisal, discipline grievance, communication, planning, organising and customer service.
  • Proven ability in commercial management with direct responsibility for delivering value for money within budget. Proven track record of developing and maintaining productive working relationships to achieving the common goal.
  • Strong IT skills and the ability to use a range of software packages including Microsoft office. Embrace change and take ownership for own development.
  • Strong at problem solving. Identifies and synthesises critical information. Uses quantitative and qualitive information to inform decisions. Identifies appropriate options. Probes and questions information and confident to challenge assumptions.
  • Educated to A level standard or equivalent experience
