Job Description

CK Group are recruiting for a Scientist to join a water technology company at their site based in Cheshire on a permanent basis. The role offers a salary of £25-30,000 per annum depending on experience.The Scientist will have a demonstrable interest in evaluating emerging technologies and experience in developing bottom-up approaches to developing and delivering novel solutions. The successful candidate will contribute to analysing emerging technologies andassociated patent landscapes, and collaboratively contribute to the construction of intellectual property defence; therefore, prior experience with IPR is therefore essential. Consideration will be given to candidates with a chemistry, sensor, digitalisation,chemical engineering or relevant background, ideally with experience of working in the water relevant industries. The Company:Our client is a leading developer of membrane technologies designed to significantly reduce the cost and environmental impact of water treatmentScientist Role:Your main duties will be:

  • Responsible for screening early-stage ideas and concepts through to support product pipeline development
  • Responsible for analysing problems and work collaboratively to develop workable solutions for new products and processes, through a combination of practical work and innovations
  • Responsible for updating information for patent coverage, patent marking, and patent mapping/cartography activities involving the company patents and potentially corresponding product information
  • Support managing IP portfolio and actively documenting innovation activities, from registering ideas, inventory disclosure record to filing and update of intellectual property portfolio
  • Analysing and reviewing patent claims and specifications as well as inventive steps which also require working with patent attorneys/agents, inventors and R&D team
  • Preparing reports, presentations and training materials related to patent coverage and patent marking
  • Translating information into innovative ideas and experimental designs
  • Contribute to identify gaps in the patent landscape where the company can operate
Your Background:The ideal candidate for this role will have:
  • Excellent experimental capability & strong experience in analysing results and presenting findings.
  • BSc / MSc, preferably PhD in chemistry, digitalisation, sensor, chemical engineering or a related subject
  • A proactive individual with a good work ethic
  • Confident and clear communicator at ease delivering results informally to colleagues and formally in presentations
  • Quick learner, able to adapt to a rapidly changing, innovative environment
  • Ability to think critically and solve problems independently and as part of a group
  • Be able to work collaboratively with colleagues across different teams
  • Strong organizational and excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • At ease working in groups, individually or with industrial collaborators
  • Working knowledge of Health and Safety
