Job Description

Health & Ed are looking for the following experienced staff to work within a Residential Children’s Home based in Croydon, South London.Salary will depend on relevant qualification and experience:Waking Night staff - £22,500-£24,500 paSenior Residential Practitioner/Residential Practitioner - £21,000-£28,000 paRegistered Care Workers - £19,800-£23,500This is a permanent position - up to 40 hours per week.The right candidate should be able to encourage young people to develop their skills, participate in their interest and social opportunities within a safe and structured environment. The candidate should also be caring, compassionate and patient, whilst demonstrating the resilience and dedication to achieve excellent outcomes.What does the role involve

  • You will be supporting vulnerable young people who have had a disadvantaged start in life.
  • Daily duties with the young people will include creating a safe and nurturing environment in which young people can develop and progress
  • You will help facilitate positive change by helping young people deal with their past and prepare for the future
  • You will be attending LAC reviews, case conferences and any other professional meetings
  • You will need to be able to complete records and write reports on behalf of YP and the home
  • You will need to have positive attitude which will include encouraging young people to make the right choices which lead to change in their lives
  • You will need to motivate and direct the care team to achieve great outcomes for all young people.
  • You will need to partake in mandatory training
  • You will provide companionship and supportive listening, whilst being responsive to emergency situations
  • You will also need to prompt and administer medication, if required and provide support with hobbies, studies and social activities
  • Suitable candidates will have experience and/or knowledge in:
  • Children’s Act 1989 and 2004
  • Working within the National Standard for Youth Justice
  • Working within Children Home’s Regulations and Quality Standards
  • Understanding how to deal with challenging behaviour (i.e. EBD)
  • Understanding substance use/abuse
  • Computer literacy
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • RequirementsQCF Level 3 Residential Childcare or Children and Young People’s WorkforceAn Enhanced DBS Certificate - Registered with DBS Update Service)Candidates MUST be 23 years or over Required skills
