Job Description

Data Engineer* (Contract)Duration: 12 months (Possibility for Extension)Location: Hybrid/LondonRate: £550 to £650 pdSkills & Experience RequiredEssential:

  • Strong working knowledge of Python, both functional and OO paradigms.
  • Working knowledge of command line tool DBT.
  • Experience of BDD/TDD for software development and design-for-testing approach to writing code.
  • Experience with one or more cloud computing platforms (eg AWS, GCP, Azure), preferably GCP.
  • Experience with code versioning systems (eg git) and CI/CD practices and tools such as GitHub Actions, preferably GitHub Actions.
  • Familiarity with SQL, Datamodelling, column store and relational databases.
  • Experience of working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, identifying, and communicating solutions in a clear, actionable manner.
  • A self-starter with a problem-solving mentality and ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.
Desirable:
  • Working knowledge of Terraform and Bash.
  • Experience with modern deployment tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, and Serverless technologies such as AWS Lambda/Google Cloud Functions.
  • Experience with data pipeline and workflow management tools such as Airflow and Luigi etc.
  • Experience with data serialisation formats such as CSV, JSON, YAML, Protobuf, Avro and Parquet.
  • Experience working in an agile development environment, using project tracking software such as JIRA/Trello.
  • Working experience with streaming data technologies such as Kafka.
  • Familiarity with reporting tools (eg Tableau/Power BI/Google Data Studio).
  • Awareness of GDPR and its possible implications for a data platform
Role Requirements:
  • Building tools and services that will enable key business initiatives.
  • Engage with business stakeholders and other data engineers to gather and analyse requirements and convert them into working solutions.
  • Setting a high bar for well tested, readable, and performant code, capable of processing large volumes of data or serving many requests.
  • Working within an agile product team and contributing to ceremonies.
  • Following best practices for communicating, documenting and testing data projects.
