Job Description

Maintenance Assistant - Temp - £8.90 per hourNational charity is seeking an experienced Maintenance Assistant to support at one of their care homes based in Cromer, Norfolk.This is a temporary role to start ASAP for an initial 6 week period and will pay £8.90 per hour.The main purpose of the Maintenance Assistant will be to undertake minor maintenance and repairs to building and grounds and to conduct maintenance checks, record keeping, gardening and driving as required. Responsibilities include:

  • Undertake minor D.I.Y duties inside and outside the home including painting, decorating, lawn mowing/edging, shrub pruning/planting, weed control, maintenance of garden tools equipment and fountains and any other such activities in accordance with the maintenance Policy and Procedure.
  • Driving a minibus as required and undertaking routine maintenance and cleanliness of the house vehicles including checking oil, water, etc
  • Rubbish clearance from surrounding parking area/pathways/grids/bin store.
  • Ensure Health and Safety of self, Residents and other staff where work is undertaken.
  • Liaise with maintenance contractors to ensure major works are carried out.
  • Carry out weekly checks on all fire alarms and doors.
  • Carry out statutory checks and maintain records as required.
  • Report any accidents or illness of an infectious nature incurred by a resident, colleague self or other persons that could have an impact within the home
  • Report any significant incidents and faulty appliances, damaged furniture or equipment or any potential hazard including spillages.
  • The ideal Maintenance Assistant will have the following knowledge, skills and experience:
  • Experience of carrying out maintenance duties in a Care Home of similar environment
  • Building trade qualification, e.g. City and Guilds
  • Full clean UK driving licence with PCV and experience of driving a Minibus and basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance
  • Awareness of building regulations
  • Experience of working within a vulnerable client group
  • Experience of working within a customer service environment
  • Awareness of Health and Safety and COSHH regulations
  • A team player with ability to work effectively with diverse groups
  • Planning and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload effectively
  • Effective interpersonal skills - able to engage effectively with a range of audiences
  • Understanding and awareness of the needs of the elderly and disabled
  • The successful candidate will be required to work between 30 and 35 hours a week, to include on call week-end working on a rotational basis.ONLY SHORT LISTED APPLICANTS WILL BE CONTACTED.
