Job Description

LETS CUT STRAIGHT TO IT Were looking for a Senior Hydrogeologist who loves a technical challenge, to join our dynamic team driving our groundwater strategy forward to a sustainable and resilient future.Do you come from a senior hydrogeologist or an environmental regulator background and have experience of water resources management Are you an excellent communicator with great influencing skills, and the ability to communicate simple or complex messagesas required to promote practical solutions Or perhaps you have extensive experience in dealing with legislation influencing water resources and groundwater and the regulations and standards around drinking water qualityIf so, then read onLETS TELL YOU MOREOne third of the Severn Trent Water supply system is obtained from groundwater resources, obtained from approximately 150 sources and 300 boreholes. As a Senior Hydrogeologist, you will be a member of Severn Trent Waters Hydrogeology Team, comprising technicalspecialists that shape the groundwater strategy for the company, provide technical advice and operational support, and both develop and maintain catchment risk assessments for the business.When successful, you will lead projects and programmes of work to support the teams goals. You will work with our stakeholders to protect and enhance the quality of our groundwater, make improvements to our processes/asset data and undertake investigationsso that we have the best evidence available from which we can make sound business decisions. You will coach and mentor junior team members and be an active member of industry technical / scientific bodies and lead on policy development.The areas of work relating to groundwater and hydrogeology include:

  • Water quality risk assessments and long-term complex source investigations
  • Research on emerging contaminants, investigations and external collaboration with treatment process engineers and our innovation team to promote new strategies
  • Development of strategies to inform the Water Resources Management Plan and Business Plan submissions
  • Water Supply System strategy development through collaboration with our Sustainable Abstraction, Infrastructure/Network and Operational teams
  • Building resilience capability into our assets, covering both quantity and quality, and influencing the business to transition away from traditional investment routes
  • Borehole capital maintenance schemes, acting as the technical sponsor
  • Turbidity, water quality and downhole site investigation programmes to inform capital programmes pre-feasibility, and understand DO recovery potential
  • Tactical support and advice to operational teams to maintain the availability and quality of the water for our customers.

You will have an MSc in hydrogeology or similar and a breadth of knowledge and experience in:
  • Legislation influencing water resources and groundwater
  • The regulations and standards around drinking water quality
  • Asset management of groundwater assets
  • Groundwater and water resource evaluation processes and techniques
  • Contaminant investigations, remedial options, treatment processes
  • A track record of collaborative working with partner organisations and stakeholders
  • An understanding of the water industry, the regulatory price review and the Water Resources Management Planning processes.
