Job Description

Our client HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) is an agency of the Ministry of Justice. HMCTS provides administrative support for the legal system across England and Wales, ensuring justice works for everyone.Our justice system defends our fundamental rights and freedoms. It is a cornerstone of our modern society and it must serve all those who call on it, when they call on it. From some of the most vulnerable people in our society, to families in crisis, claimantsand commercial businesses - HMCTS has a responsibility to administer a justice system that is accessible to everyone and operates efficiently.Jury OfficerWe are currently recruiting for an Jury Officer to work with one of our fantastic Public Sector clients in Coventry CV1 (Occasionally to work from Leamington Court for meetings and training) - Interviews will be held at Leamington Court also.This a 12 month temporary position initially, with good chance of extension but one in which you would be able to gain valuable exposure/experience working within the Public Sector.If you have worked within the public sector before this would be advantageous but not essential. If you have transferable experience, then we would love to hear from you.Key responsibilities:The post holder is required to work in a flexible way and undertake any duties reasonably requested by line management which are commensurate with the grade and level of responsibility of this post:" Responsible for supporting the arrival and introduction of those involved with jury service." Processing of juror expenses claims for approval." Supporting jurors throughout their service and responding to any queries or concerns about proceedings." Preparation of jury panels, and the supporting of the usher team in the empanelment process." Support with administration of juror documents - including letters relating to long trials, excusals, deferrals etc. " Supporting jury manager with the following:o Preparation and sifting of juror questionnaires.o Planning and arrangements for the number of jurors required on a weekly basis." Stocking of court supplies and keeping stationery supplies up to date " Dealing with deployment of jurors to Maple House and other locations" Support Usher Manager completing basic administrative tasks/projects" Supporting the Jury Manager, and Usher Manager with any other ad hoc duties as advised" Cover the usher role in court when needed (if trained and able to do so)" Point of contact when Jury Manager/Usher Manager not availableExperience/skills required:" Understanding or willingness to learn Crown Court IT systems (Juror, Xhibit, Common Platform, etc)" Clear and assertive communication skills " Flexibility and resilience " Working knowledge of current IT applications in use at Birmingham Crown Court (Outlook, MS Teams, Word, etc)" Excellent team working skills" Ability to use initiative in situations" Good time keeping, working against deadlinesStandard hours are 37 hours per week, Monday - Friday (Between the hours of 8.30am - 5.30pm)Pay rate of £11.88 per hour which is paid weekly - parking availableIf you feel that this role is one that would interest you and you have the right attributes, then please apply and you will be contacted if you are successful.Brook Street is a Disability Confident Leader, and we have also hold Gold Award status from the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme.Our supply of Contingent Workers to the Public Sector Resourcing Framework (PSR) has driven us to take further steps in supporting candidates with disabilities or veterans.
