LOCATION OF WORK: Coventry and Remote working. A mixture of onsite and remote working can be offered.THE ROLE: A highly successful electronics business, who design and manufacture five million IoT smart home safety devices every year require a Head of Embedded Software to join their Development team.With the firmware team having grown to 6 embedded software engineers, there is now need for a Embedded Software Manager to manage the team. With huge customer demand globally and ambitious product roadmaps your team is set to further expand.In this role you will report directly into the Technical Director, with you taking responsibility for all firmware activities, roadmaps and future strategies for the Embedded Software department.Although you wont be doing the hands-on embedded programming in this role, you should feel confident sitting down with your team members and doing code reviews, providing technical guidance etc. You should be a Manager who remains close to the coalface of embedded software.The firmware that the companies IoT connected devices are typically developed in is Embedded C on RTOS and Bare Metal using a range of 8, 16 and 32 bit microcontrollers. The devices typically need to operate at a low power and use wireless communication protocols such as Bluetooth, BLE, Cellular, WiFi and Zigbee. If you have experience developing high manufactured, low power, battery powered RF devices this would be highly desirable for the role.The Technical Director wishes the Head of Embedded Software to bring innovative ideas and new processes so that the company continues to produce the best possible software for its products, while working as a team in the best and most efficient way.The company prides itself on having a great team and working environment, which is proven by an excellent staff retention record. You are never far away from the products you have developed.SKILLS REQUIRED:1. Experience managing/ leading embedded software engineers2. Full firmware development lifecycle (from specification to validation)3. Strong understanding of Embedded Software and Embedded Electronics4. Experience working on as many of the following types of products: IoT, Wireless, RF, Low power/ Battery operated, Mass manufacture, Consumer/ Commercial5.
