Job Description

Our client is the leading provider of infrastructure for electric vehicle charging, renewable grid connections and large industrial connection throughout the UK. As part of our client they are a provider of essential infrastructure services, they was createdin 2017 to being together the groups existing high quality expertise and skill around electricity grid connections (as an Independent Connections Provider), electricity infrastructure and civil engineering to create a company focused on the EV, renewablesand large industrial connections.The company has grown rapidly since 2017 with a large number of exciting projects in the pipeline. To help deliver these projects, we are seeking to expand our clients highly skilled and experienced design team.Our client provides a highly technical and competent problem-solving service to our customers, so they are looking for outstanding individuals who want an opportunity to grow and develop.Location within the UK is flexible.EHV Substation Design EngineerDuties:The EHV Substation Design Engineer role will report to the Lead Design Engineer and will play an integral role providing conceptual designs for the tendering team, completing detailed design work for electricity infrastructure projects from 33kV up to 132kV.From budget design to operational handover, EHV substation design engineers ensure that designs are technically and commercially compliant and delivered within agreed timescales. This emerging market space is well suited for design engineers wanting to furtherdevelop their existing skills in designing the infrastructure to these new technological advances, support for professional registration is available and actively supported.

  • Preparation of compliant and high-quality electrical designs for 33kV - 132kV ICP connections
  • Provide innovative solutions to enable grid connections in a timely manner
  • Undertake the role of Designer under the CDM regulations
  • Carrying out cable capacity calculations, load flow studies, protection studies and earthing studies
  • Ensure designs are compliant with legislation, industry and adopting utility specifications and all HSEQ requirements
  • Delivering and reviewing electricity infrastructure designs, switchgear specifications, multicore block diagrams, wiring diagrams and cable schedules, site and switchroom layouts
  • Ensuring designs are technically and commercially compliant and delivered within agreed timescales
  • Offer full design support to clients and their internal teams
  • Liaise with project managers and delivery teams ensuring open and thorough communication channels.
  • Obtain relevant IDNO and DNO design approvals
  • Provide excellent service to our clients customers
  • Liaise and problem solve with other engineering disciplines
  • Be main point of contact for DNO/IDNO technical discussions
EHV Substation Design EngineerRequirements:
  • Degree qualified in Electrical Power Systems/Electrical Engineering
  • Proven experience in the design of both AIS & GIS substations up to 132kV
  • Experience in design and planning of DNO/IDNO networks
  • Experience in the grid connection application process an advantage
  • Professional registration an advantage (IEng or CEng)
  • Track record in similar role
  • Experience within a DNO or Power Systems Consultancy an advantage
  • Good relationships with DNOs, IDNOs and Power System Consultancies
  • Detailed knowledge of UK T&D industry
  • Strong knowledge of DNO and IDNO technical requirements, including G81 standards
  • PV/generation/battery storage technical knowledge an advantage
  • Understanding of responsibilities under CDM regulations
  • Knowledge of IET codes of practice an advantage (Electric Vehicles, PV systems, Electrical Storage)
  • Knowledge of IT systems inc AutoCAD and power system software an advantage
  • Knowledge of BS 7671 18th edition an advantage
  • Strong working knowledge of relevant ENA Engineering Recommendations (G99, G100, P28, P29 etc)
  • Strong general IT skills
  • Strong stakeholder management skills
  • Effective communicator
  • Self-starter and able to work independently
  • Highly organised with attention to detail
