Job Description

Head of NursingAbout usPharmaxo Healthcare is a specialist pharmacy and clinical homecare provider in an expanding market offering greater choice and convenience to patients whilst delivering value and efficiencies to the NHS and private sector.Your roleReporting to the Managing Director, this role will be accountable for the delivery of a professional nursing service, and provide strong leadership to the team of nurses, encouraging innovation, creativity and strategic thinking regarding service provision.As Head of Nursing the post holder will promote a common vision and ownership of the company values and strategic objectives, advising the business operation on the clinical implications of strategic and operational decisions.The Head of Nursing will agree personal objectives with their line manager on an annual basis. This will form part of the annual review of their performance in the role. The Head of Nursing will set objectives for the Regional Nurse Managers and Lead Nurses,monitoring performance through an effective performance management process.Working closely with the other members of the multi-disciplinary team the job holder will ensure that the services provided by them comply with the requirements of care regulators, best clinical practice and the legal and ethical requirements of the RCNand the NMC. Developing and ensuring compliance with policies and procedures, training and competency assessment of other nursing personnel.Through regular and active communication and from the basis of an exceptional service the holder of this role will forge first class relationships with Pharmaxo key customers.This role will be the registered CQC Manager for Nursing services.Your duties & responsibilitiesCorporate responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development, communication and promotion of corporate core purpose, vision, mission and values.
  • Contribute to the development of a culture of continuous improvement within Pharmaxo in order to meet stretching financial and performance targets.
  • Champion Pharmaxo, the services it provides and its support for other services.
  • To ensure that the requirements of the Nurses are met, in particular the responsibility of Registered Practitioners, to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care.
  • To ensure that the NMC Code of Conduct standards and management of nursing practice and revalidation are disseminated and implanted throughout the company.
  • To work with the Senior Management Team to ensure that nursing practice remains patient focused, evidence-based and cost effective.
  • Participate in the Senior Manager on-call rota.
  • To undertake specific tasks asked from time to time by the Managing Director
Patient responsibilities
  • To take overall accountability for patient coordination.
  • To take responsibility for patient consultation and involvement in service planning.
  • To lead the development and implementation of Care Pathways between the hospital clinical teams and Pharmaxo.
  • To take responsibility for complaints and litigation management in relation to nursing services.
  • To take the lead for the company on Controls Assurance and Risk Management.
  • Where required, provide nurse cover in the event of unavailability of nurse capacity to ensure the ongoing continuity of patient treatment.
  • Be available to speak directly to patients and/or their carers in the event of concerns regarding their treatment or a direct incident or complaint.
Human resources responsibilities
  • To ensure that clinical supervision is in place, and that the process is monitored and developed further within the remit of Clinical Governance.
  • To have the first-line management responsibility for the following group of staff:
    • Regional Nurse Managers
    • Lead Nurses
    • Clinical Trainers
  • To contribute to the delivery of strategic workforce objectives such as workforce planning, organisational change and training requirements, in conjunction with the Group Head of People/People Partner and Managing Director.
Financial responsibilities
  • To support the Managing Director in the management of the budget to meet Pharmaxo’s strategic and operational business plans.
Stakeholder responsibilities
  • The Head of Nursing has responsibility to improve and sustain relationships with key stakeholders and build a positive image of Pharmaxo through responsive internal and external communications.
Health and safety
  • Under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, as an employee, you must take reasonable care for health and safety of yourself and for other persons who may be affected by your acts or omissions at work. The Act also states that you must not intentionallyor recklessly interfere with or misuse anything provided in the interests of health, safety and welfare. You are also required to make yourself aware of Pharmaxo’ s health & safety policies and to report any accidents/incidents.
