Job Description

My client based in Consett are looking for a Mechanical Fitter to join the business. This is a permanent position to work for a very successful business with fantastic opportunities and benefits for the right candidate.Salary: £30,000 - £32,000/annum Shift Times - 8.00am - 4.30pm - Monday to FridayOverall Job Purpose:To maintain and oversee the safe and effective use of the Consett Plant, repairing and servicing machinery across the plant as and when required.Key Duties:

  • Maintain the effectiveness of all guarding and safety devices implemented by the
  • Carry out repairs and routine preventative maintenance services to all production machinery to improve the functionality of the plant and to reduce machinery breakdowns.
  • Work closely with our Production Supervisors to ensure day-to-day maintenance and repairs are coordinated and completed on a timely manners to avoid delays in production.
  • Liaise and support all sub-contractors that work on site, ensuring compliance with the Companys Health and Safety measures.
  • Troubleshoot machinery/equipment failures to determine cause and investigate repairs.
  • Support the different production teams (Industrialisation, Manufacture, R&D) on continuous improvement projects.
  • Conduct analysis on machinery breakdowns to reduce/eliminate reoccurring issues.
  • Support the plant with installation of new machinery.
  • Bench fitting and fabrication work when required.
  • Fully engage in the culture of continuous improvement of manufacturing processes.
  • Ensure compliance with Environmental procedures on site and take part in the monitoring and recording of such.
  • Report any misuse of machinery or abuse of any Safety system, or damage to the fabric of the site to the Unit Controllers.
  • Abide by & actively promote the clients code of ethics.
Job Competencies/Key Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of Fabrication and MIG Welding.
  • Strong knowledge of Pneumatic and Hydraulics.
  • Basic knowledge of use of Lathe, Vertical Miller and Surface Grinder.
  • Press Tool maintenance knowledge would be an advantage.
  • Previous mechanical experience is essential.
  • Practical knowledge of Health and Safety statutes and be able to translate to the shop floor.
  • Must be well organised, able to prioritise and multi task in a demanding environment.
  • Be self motivated.
  • Must be able to work alongside and interact with other operatives or departments.
  • Flexibility: the role will involve attending emergencies outside normal working pattern.
  • Previous experience of working with subcontractors/contractors is desirable.
Education:
  • NVQ (or equivalent) Certificate in Mechanical Engineering or Fabrication and Welding Engineering Technology ideally gained through apprenticeships.
