Job Description

Job title: Deputy Compliance ManagerHourly rate: £13.11Location: Consett, County DurhamContract: Temp - 12 Months with possibility of extensionStart date: ASAPHours: 37 hours a week Monday- Friday (Flexible shift patterns required)Arrangements: Hybrid, with majority majority being office basedThe Home Office are looking for a Deputy compliance manager to help with the auditing and inspection of the different facilities found at the Derwentside Immigration Removal cetnre. If you`re an organised individual with a good eye for detail, and are willingto work in a fast paced environment, then this is the job for you!The RoleThe DS Compliance Team operate within the IRCs (Immigration removal centres), ensuring that our IRC Suppliers provide the required levels of management of the IRC and care for the residents detained there as well as oversight for all of the operational activity.This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast paced and varied role. As a Deputy Compliance Manager, you will be one of a team of four who monitor the standards within the IRCs and the performance of the IRC Supplier, ensuring effective delivery of contractedservices. This is achieved by regularly walking throughout the IRC, interacting with IRC supplier staff and the detained residents.Key responsibilities (but not limited to):* Responsible for monitoring contractual compliance, providing regular performance summaries and feedback to the Home Office Compliance Manager.* Manage the teams shared inbox, responding to enquiries in a timely fashion.

  • Monitor and report on the transfer of residents from the IRC onto their chartered removal flight.
  • Assist in giving advice about the policies and procedures of the IRC to managers, including responses to parliamentary questions and other official correspondence.* Be available for an out of hours on-call service for Detention Operations rotated between team.
  • Assist the Compliance Manager with the production of monthly reports that provide essential data and statistics relating to the IRC.
  • Ensure Residents within the centre are provided with an effective service in line with Detention Services Performance Standards & Framework.
  • Monitor the IRC Suppliers compliance with the contract, ensuring that the site is run in a healthy, safe and secure manner in accordance with relevant legislation. Providing regular updates to your manager.
  • Carry out Immigration Enforcements statutory duties around the IRC, including authorising the use of temporary confinement or removal from association for residents as necessary.
  • Collecting, processing and auditing complaints in line with the policy, working collaboratively with the complaints department.
  • Represent the Home Office at a range of meetings that include, planning in the difficult removals of residents, daily operational meetings, resident consultative committees, Independent Monitoring Board (IMB), security, healthcare and safer community meetings.
  • Occasional minute taking at some meetings (shared between the team on rotation)
  • Provide high-quality thematic reviews into contract delivery and dip sample reports on a range of areas enabling requisite assurance of contract delivery and adherence to policy.
What is an Immigration Removal Centre (IRC)An IRC is a secure building that holds detained individuals (residents) who are held prior to their removal from the United Kingdom or for nationality and identification purposes.There are currently 6 IRCs in England and 1 in Scotland, with 2 more IRCs planned to open in England in the near future.All IRCs are overseen by the Home Offices Immigration Enforcement directorate and are contracted out to private companies known as IRC Suppliers who ensure all aspects of the IRC are run safely and securely within rules and legislation.The Detention Services (DS) Compliance Team work closely with IRC Suppliers to ensure that the service being delivered is up to the standards defined within legislation and the contract between the Home Office and the IRC Supplier.Details of Derwentside IRCDerwentside IRC is located in Consett, County Durham.
  • The centre holds up to 84 female residents. It is the only all-female IRC in the UK providing a regime that provides as much freedom as possible. Residents live in 4 separate accommodation blocks within the facility.
