Support workers collaborate with other professional disciplines to ensure effective support delivery and achievement of desired client’s outcomes. Support Workers effectively interact with mother-baby and significant others, while maintaining the standard of professional support. The nature of the direction and supervision required for this position varies by State and job setting. Mother-Baby Support Workers educate and assist new mothers with physical and emotional needs during the post-partum period, while in the semi-independent setting. They perform the dual role of support for the infants and educating mothers about care.Position Responsibilities Mother-Baby support workers provide direct and individualized support to parents based on the application of scientific support principles. In addition to general support , responsibilities of Mother-Baby support workers include:Consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patients’ (both mother and infant) care plansMaintains a comfortable, safe and clean environment for mother and infantAssists mother with her hygienic needsAssesses mother’s pain, if anyPerforms emotional status checks on mother, recognizing symptoms such as those related to post partum depressionMonitors bonding between mother and infantTakes mother’s and infant’s vital signsMeasures input/output of mother and infantMonitors mother and infant and reports adverse reactions to any treatments or medications being givenProvides mother with breast-feeding tipsEducates mother on sore nipple managementTeaches mother bathing tips for infantInstructs mother on diaper changingKeeps track of all feeds and diapersInvolves and educates family/significant others in implementing best practices for mother and infant careRecords all support information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate formsPerforms other position-related duties as assigned, depending on assignment settingFloat among various support workers, where qualified and competentPosition Requirements Level 3 Residential childcare or equivalentMinimum two years of working within a family assessment unitExperience of working with vulnerable adults and children and working with people with learning difficulties ·
