Job Description

Shift Manager Salary up to £52,000Coalville Leicester Shift Manager / Manufacturing / Production / Management / LE67The Recruitment Group is working with a leading UK manufacturing company that produces pre-cast products for the construction sector, with 17 manufacturing facilities nationwide they are continuing to lead in the construction industry.Purpose of the Shift Manager role:The position provides Management control of a Brickworks site. It is responsible for meeting budget requirements, reporting, efficient and timely production, management of the employees including health and safety, maintenance, environmental controls, andstewardship of the assets under control of the works.Main duties and responsibilities of the Shift Manager role:

  • To work in co-ordination with the Production Manager.
  • Plan, coordinate and manage all site activities in a safe, efficient and effective manner.
  • Manage the H&S aspects of the operation to meet and/or exceed legislative requirements and Company standards and Golden Rules
  • Develop and manage improvements in the capabilities and competencies of all staff to deliver improved operational performance in all areas.
  • Develop and implement new and improved operational practices in all aspects across the site.
  • Develop/implement opportunities for cost reduction and minimisation of waste.
  • Champion best brick quality in order to achieve/exceed yield targets and produce improved quality products.
  • Undertake any relevant training as requested.
  • Oversee the management of all HR-related activities; this includes sickness absenteeism, lateness, and discipline. Ensure that consistency is achieved so that the company isnt left exposed.
  • Be the senior leader on-site during evenings and weekends, ensuring that the site is secure, and personnel are safe.
  • Deputise for the Production Manager when they are absent, on annual leave, or off-site.
  • to update all areas of knowledge as required to carry out the job with maximum effectiveness and to attend training/development courses as and when required.
  • to comply with all aspects of the HR Policies and Procedures of the Company.
  • To have total familiarity and commitment to a Zero Tolerance Health and Safety Culture is essential and evidence of formal training in a Health and Safety discipline would be required, as would be experience in the implementation of Safety standards ina busy production environment.
  • Lead the shift in line with the company’s Golden Rules
  • To have the technical competence to oversee the operations of a highly mechanised and automated production system will be a given, and as such a mechanical/ electrical /manufacturing background,
  • To have experience in management of a team of skilled and semi-skilled personnel, working on a multi-shift system is highly desirable and excellent interpersonal skills and a highly developed team-building ethic will be required.
  • Develop a knowledge of clay technology.
Experience/knowledge requirements for the Shift Manager role:
  • We are looking for a flexible self-starter, with a manufacturing background.
  • Experience in a fast-moving building materials environment would be ideal, but not essential.
  • The job holder will have had previous Managerial/supervisory experience and have ideally completed some form of formal management/supervisory training.
  • To have experience in management of a team of skilled and semi-skilled personnel, working on a multi-shift system is highly desirable and excellent interpersonal skills and a highly developed team-building ethic will be required.
  • A knowledge of clay technology would be desired but not essential.
  • IOSH certificate in Safety Management would be ideal but not essential.
  • We are looking for a flexible self-starter, with a manufacturing background.
  • Experience in a fast-moving building materials environment would be ideal, but not essential.
  • The job holder will have had previous Managerial/supervisory experience and have ideally completed some form of formal management/supervisory training.
  • The role forms a key part of the management team and hence the job holder is expected to contribute towards the development of wider operations.
  • The role requires a high level of contact with internal/external departments; therefore, the job holder needs to have excellent communication skills and be able to develop good working relationships.
  • The role requires effective resource management skills to ensure the efficient operation of the process.
  • The job holder needs to be able to combine production and operational capabilities and implement continuous improvement activities to deliver/exceed budget expectations.
