Job Description

Electrical Development Engineer - up to £36,000ClevedonOutsource UKs Cyber / Engineering team is looking to recruit a Electrical Development Engineer for an engineering client in Clevedon. Our client are embarking on an exciting new project and need to recruit for Development Engineers (Electrical) to support the Engineering Group.Edwards Clevedon are embarking on an exciting new project and need to recruit for Development Engineers (Electrical) to support the Engineering Group.The duties of a Development Engineer (Electrical) are:-Principle accountabilities

  • To support the interpretation of Master Specification (MS)
  • To support delivery of design to Master Specification (MS)
  • To work within Edwards Product Commercialisation Process (PCP) and New Product Introduction (NPI) procedures
  • To verify that the designs meet the MS and conform to the relevant design standards by calculation and/or testing as appropriate
  • Accountable for the design and development of sub-assemblies of a product ensuring the specified quality and cost are achieved to the agreed project time scale
  • Accountable for the detailed documentation of the design (models, drawings, design data, BOM, test data) ensuring all relevant information is recorded in a timely manner in accordance with Technical Construciton File (TCF) requirements
  • To take technical direction from Senior and Lead Engineer and to report progress
  • To keep abreast of relevant engineering developments and to lead own development in the role - seek support as appropriate from engineering leads and line manager
  • Qualifications and ExperienceThe Development Engineer (Electrical) has the following qualifications and experience:
  • A good electrical biased engineering degree (or other relevant engineering qualification with a minimum of 3 years relevant industry experience)
  • Experience in Continuous Improvement or NPI - Demonstrable participation in product introductions would be advantageous
  • Knowledge of design for manufacture and design for assembly
  • Some experience in the use of a range of engineering materials and with a number of manufacturing methods/techniques
  • Knowledge of BS EN 8888
  • Knowledge of CE marking and EN standards (Machinery and Low Voltage directives desirable)
  • Experience of designing to SEMI standards is desirable
  • Participation in HAZOP, DFMEA studies and risk analysis techniques
  • Experience in the testing of designs
  • SkillsThe Development Engineer (Electrical) is able to demonstrate proficiency in the following skills:
  • 3D and 2D CAD skills (CATIA, Visio, Solid Works, AutoCAD and/or other drafting tools)
  • Skilled in the use of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software e.g. SmarTeam, MAPICS, SAP
  • An understanding of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and system schematics
  • Ability to perform engineering calculations and undertake simple FEAs in support of the design
  • Design Engineering - Ability to design and develop piece parts and less complex sub-assemblies of a product
  • Data Analysis - Ability to analyse experimental data, summarise and document conclusions in report format
  • Design Reviews - Ability to lead design reviews for the specific sub-assembly under design (specification, concept, model and critical) and participate in other design reviews where required
  • Sample Approval - Ability to carry out sample approval of new parts and assemblies
  • Interpersonal Skills - Building partnerships with team members and other functions within the business
  • Problem Solving Skills - Ability to solve problems with practical solutions - use of established problem solving techniques, e.g., 8D, Ishikawa etc.
  • Functional CompetenciesThe Development Engineer (Electrical) is able to demonstrate proficiency in the following functional competencies:
  • Safety first attitude - exercising a safe approach to work and an understanding of behavioural safety
  • Results Orientation - Focus on delivering to project milestones and timescales
  • Attention to detail and right first time approach
  • Ability to form productive relationships, build partnerships and focus on team goals
  • Communication - Ability to convey design intent (project manager, peers and other members of the team) - to communicate clearly and unequivocally
