Job Description

Development Engineer - ElectricalBristol£33000 - £34000Leading supplier of high specification manufacturing equipment are seeking a Development Engineer to be based from their South Bristol site.Principle accountabilities

  • To support the interpretation of Master Specification (MS)
  • To support delivery of design to Master Specification (MS)
  • To work within the Product Commercialisation Process (PCP) and New Product Introduction (NPI) procedures
  • To verify that the designs meet the MS and conform to the relevant design standards by calculation and/or testing as appropriate
  • Accountable for the design and development of sub-assemblies of a product ensuring the specified quality and cost are achieved to the agreed project time scale
  • Accountable for the detailed documentation of the design (models, drawings, design data, BOM, test data) ensuring all relevant information is recorded in a timely manner
  • To take technical direction from Senior and Lead Engineer and to report progress
  • To keep abreast of relevant engineering developments and to lead own development in the role - seek support as appropriate from engineering leads and line manager
  • To participate in HAZOP and DFMEA studies
  • To carry out/participate in and record risk assessments as required in the execution of a project
  • To support the introduction of new products onto the factory flow line and where necessary on customers sites
  • To ensure engineering changes are concluded in accordance with the planned schedule
  • Qualifications and Experience
  • A good electrical biased engineering degree (or other relevant engineering qualification)
  • Experience in Continuous Improvement or NPI - Demonstrable participation in product introductions would be advantageous
  • Knowledge of design for manufacture and design for assembly
  • Some experience in the use of a range of engineering materials and with a number of manufacturing methods/techniques
  • Participation in HAZOP, DFMEA studies and risk analysis techniques
  • Experience in the testing of designs
  • SkillsThe Development Engineer (Electrical) should be able to demonstrate proficiency in the following skills:
  • 3D and 2D CAD skills (CATIA, Visio, Solid Works, AutoCAD and/or other drafting tools)
  • Skilled in the use of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software e.g. SmarTeam, MAPICS, SAP
  • Ability to perform engineering calculations and undertake simple FEAs in support of the design
  • Design Engineering - Ability to design and develop piece parts and less complex sub-assemblies of a product
  • Data Analysis - Ability to analyse experimental data, summarise and document conclusions in report format
  • Design Reviews - Ability to lead design reviews for the specific sub-assembly under design (specification, concept, model and critical) and participate in other design reviews where required
  • Sample Approval - Ability to carry out sample approval of new parts and assemblies
  • Interpersonal Skills - Building partnerships with team members and other functions within the business
  • Problem Solving Skills - Ability to solve problems with practical solutions - use of established problem solving techniques, e.g., 8D, Ishikawa etc.
