Job Description

Being an Occupational Therapist Assistant is so much more than just organising programmes. Its providing care and support to some of the most vulnerable people in society to help them do something they couldnt do before. Its what delivering great healthcareshould feel like.Working 37.5 hours a week, you will join the Occupational Therapy team to create and champion an activity-based culture, which will see you use technical and creative skills to assist in developing, delivering, and coordinating programmes focused on social,recreational and leisure activities.You will be supported and guided in your role as an Occupational Therapist Assistant to co-deliver a meaningful activity programme, based on a therapeutic approach to care. The aim of the OT team is to ensure that service users have access to therapeuticinterventions to meet their recovery needs and are provided with a range of activities and initiatives to promote healthier lifestyles and skill development.Your responsibilities will include:

  • Daily monitoring activity and being proactive in ensuring that meaningful therapeutic activity is provided safely.
  • Assist in writing and updating Risk Assessments for activity and risk of environment for all relevant interventions.
  • Working collaboratively with the Multi-Disciplinary Team members on patient activity
  • Working flexible hours where required to suit the needs of the service.
  • Contributing to the creation of patient and ward timetables, ensuring that patients have access to therapeutic interventions to meet their recovery needs and are provided with a range of activities to promote healthier lifestyles and skill development
  • Providing effective and accurate clinical entries and outcome of activities using an electronic patient database system
  • Developing patient programmes aligned to individual patient’s needs
  • Assisting the Occupational Therapist in auditing and managing the therapy area, ensuring the safety and appropriateness of the environment.
  • To use creative and organisational skills in providing cultural events for the ward and hospital
  • Supporting patients in developing vocational skills through activity and engagement
  • Supporting patients within community integration, running community-based activities using public transport and locally-based resources
To be successful in this role, you’ll need:
  • Previous experience of working with adults and/or young people with mental health disorders
  • Any other specific skills which can be utilised in this setting: Art & Craft, Horticulture, Cooking, Music
  • Good communication skills
  • Effective computer skills
  • Good organisational skills
  • Previous experience of organising/facilitating social events and activities.
  • Any relevant certificates, courses and skills that would enhance the delivery and diversity of therapeutic activities
  • Ability to design meaningful activity timetables and source inventive activities suitable and relevant to patient cohort.
  • Flexibility – able to work some evening and weekend hours to meet the needs of the service.
  • Worked as part of team.
