Job Description

This supports the creation of strong and vibrant communities.They make a difference to people’s lives - and this is something we want to continue doing, for more people, every day, and they have ambitious plans to simplify and modernise our organisation, to become a simply brilliant landlord.About the roleThey now have an exciting opportunity for an experienced, dynamic Safety, Health, Environmental and Fire (SHEF) Manager to join them on a permanent basis.You will have a unique opportunity to further improve standards for them and to shape and lead health and safety (H&S) across the group.Reporting to the Head of Risk and Assurance, you will lead a small team and coach and influence managers across the business, in support of creating a safe environment for both their employees and customers.Key responsibilities of this strategic and operational role include:

  • embedding a continuous improvement culture to ensure systems and processes are compliant with external and internal H&S policies and regulations;
  • reviewing the groups H&S policies and procedures, creating strategic proposals and gaining commitment from the Executive team and Board to develop these across the business;
  • providing assurance of compliance with H&S to senior management and the Board;
  • developing and maintaining the group’s fire strategy, policies and procedures;
  • providing leadership and expertise to all operational teams across the business on H&S matters, acting as a main point of contact;
  • developing and driving implementation of programmes which tackle critical H&S issues; and
  • undertaking site inspections, audits and accident investigations as required.
  • About youIt is essential that you have the following:
  • significant experience in a senior H&S role and an ability to make a difference from day one;
  • a NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent experience;
  • direct experience of managing H&S in a social housing sector and/or in a construction and/or maintenance related environment;
  • excellent verbal and written communication skills; and
  • previous experience of leading a team with direct links to major stakeholders.
  • You will have a commercial approach with a strong sense of integrity, whilst also being positive, proactive and flexible and be able to work accurately to deadlines, whilst managing a busy workload. You’ll be able to build and maintain effective working relationships, have excellent interpersonal and influencing skills and be able to communicate and work with colleagues at all levels.Travel across Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, and Oxfordshire will feature, so a current driving licence and access to the use of a personal vehicle for business purposes is essential.BenefitsIn support and recognition of their colleagues who will help them deliver their employer strategy, they offer a fantastic benefits package.
