Job Description

Senior Design ManagerOur client specialises in refurbishment and new build projects up to £7,000,000 in both the public and private sectors. Their experience and success with Design & Build contracts has grown significantly in recent years and they are now looking to recruitan experienced and competent Design Manager to strengthen our delivery team in this area of the business.The Role: As a Design Manager your responsibilities will include:Pre-construction Period

  • Leading and managing the preconstruction design process and be the main point of contact with the client team.
  • Instigate an agenda, chair and minute all design team meeting throughout the development of the design.
  • At the outset to produce a pre-construction programme in conjunction with the operational and commercial team to ensure the delivery of the design in accordance with the contract programme taking account of all statutory approvals inclusive of the dischargeof planning conditions, obtaining building control approval, party wall agreements and any necessary wayleave or Easement agreements.
  • Manage the procurement of all statutory undertakers in conjunction with the delivery an commercial team and ensure the provision of all relevant related design information in a timely manner.
  • Manage the sign off process of all design information with the client team and discharge of all pre-commencement planning conditions.
Construction Period - In conjunction with the design team:
  • Ensure the completion of all elements of design.
  • Manage the discharge of all planning conditions and satisfy queries relating to Building Control and the Building Warranty provider.
  • Resolve any construction queries raised by the site team.
  • Resolve any design queries raised by the client team
  • Manage the design and production of record documentation relating to fire strategy
  • Manage the production of record documentation for the O&M Manual and H&S File.
  • Manage and control all documentation issued for construction
The Candidate: A strong candidate will ideally have a construction design background and:
  • Proven experience working for a contractor or surveying practice in a similar role.
  • A degree or HND in construction management, design or surveying.
  • Sound technical construction and building services knowledge developed through education and experience.
  • An ability to work closely with members of the operational and commercial teams and strong personality to ensure that right decisions are made for efficient project delivery
  • An understanding of site management practices, risks and costs and the nous to ensure that the design team produce practical and economic information.
  • Excellent IT skills including CAD, Project Commander or similar, Excel and Word.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Effective leadership and management skills.
