Job Description

About the Service / DepartmentOur service enables Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea residents to avoid, and in particular to reduce the need for, prolonged hospital admissions and long-term dependency on mental health services. We promote recovery and prevent social exclusion amongservice users with mental health support needs. This service delivers community based, person-centred and holistic support to service users who are of African and Caribbean descent, aged over 18, who have a severe and/or enduring mental health needs and livingin Westminster and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.The overall aim of support provision is preventing hospital admissions and facilitating earlier discharge, promoting recovery, social inclusion and helping service users to maximise their independence and wellbeing, access to employment, training, and othermainstream activities.About the role

  • Support the running and developing the day center under direction of the Group Activities Coordinator.
  • To be responsible for the support and wellbeing of an allocated group of service users.
  • Have responsibility for the empowerment and well-being of service users, using person-centred planning and Recovery Approaches, a key-work system to enable them to attain and sustain a tenancy, enjoy a good quality of life, and avoid repeat hospital admissions.
  • Support the Group Activities Coordinator to oversee performance related to the contract including KPIs, by ensuring that service users are able to attend and participate in a range of socially inclusive activities and skills development opportunities.
  • To develop and maintain a rolling programme of group activities using data from needs assessments, consultations, and local/national recovery programmes.
  • To ensure that specific services and activities are provided to meet the needs of African, Caribbean, and Arabic speaking users.
  • To take lead responsibility in maintaining the health and safety of the building including undertaking daily, weekly & monthly checks within the premises. To comply with lone working policies and procedures.
About you
  • Demonstrable experience of working with people who have experienced mental ill health and complex support needs.
  • Good knowledge of implementing and delivering a co-production model of involvement with users in a mental health setting.
  • Experience of providing high quality day services; including compliance with health and safety. Knowledge of methods of assessing, formulating, implementing, recording, reviewing, and monitoring person-centred support and assessment plans.
  • Motivation to maintain professional standards at all times within the service and ability to use peer and Management support to maintain resilience and provide a whole team approach.
  • Ability and willingness to work flexibly including some out of hours working during the evenings and weekends.
  • Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding issues and ability to address them appropriately.
  • Experience of working with referral agencies to ensure that all referrals to the service are acknowledged, assessed, allocated to appropriate support workers, reviewed, and closed within agreed time frames.
