Job Description

Post Title: Health & Safety AdvisorTeam: FacilitiesSalary: £TBC (subject to job evaluation)Hours: 21 hours / 3 days per weekTo ensure that the Trust and employees comply with health and safety legal regulations and standards, and that safety policies and practices are adopted and adhered to. To review the Trust’s safety management system and compare it with best practices asbenchmarked by health and safety regulations and practices in other organisations, and to use knowledge and skills to promote a positive health and safety culture in the workplace. To act as the main point of contact for guidance and assistance for health& safety matters.EssentialQualifications

  • NEBOSH General Certificate
  • Deaf Awareness and basic sign language course (commitment to achieving this)
  • Willingness to undertake other training relevant to the role.
Experience
  • Relevant and recent experience of delivering a safety role in a similar environment.
  • Experience in teaching or training
Skills, Knowledge, and Ability
  • Ability to advise on a range of specialist areas, e.g. fire regulations, hazardous substances such as asbestos, RIDDOR and occupational diseases.
  • Competent in Fire Risk Assessment
  • Knowledge and experience in investigating and recording incidents, accidents, complaints, and cases of ill health.
  • Knowledge of COSHH and its implementation
  • Trained DSE Assessor
  • Ability to undertake audits and able to conduct and manage an internal audit programme.
  • A sound working knowledge of current H&S legislation and ability to implement this in the workplace, including ongoing awareness of any legal updates that affect the Trust.
  • Good ICT skills, particularly with Microsoft Office tools
  • Ability to provide positive and proactive support to managers and departments to create a positive safety culture.
  • Ability to work co-operatively with others to complete tasks and implement process improvements.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills with attention to detail
  • Proactive with strong analytical, problem-solving and organisational skills
  • Excellent negotiation, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Capable of acquiring and applying detailed legal, technical and regulatory information
Physical Requirements
  • The ability to meet the physical demands of the post which in addition to office based work require substantial activity around the site that includes walking, standing, lifting, bending and operating equipment
