Job Description

The External Relations Manager plays an important role in enhancing and protecting the reputation of the group as part of the Marketing and Communications Department. Reporting to the Head of External Relations, you will respond to media enquiries, sourcesand drafts stories, and manages stakeholder communications.Client DetailsAn innovative and growing organisation helping to redefine the health and social care landscape across the UK.Description

  • Handle multiple and varied queries from national and local media, responding quickly, confidently and sensitively to negative or critical news stories, and to positive requests
  • Lead on all stakeholder communications, working closely with senior colleagues, including the C-suite
  • Assist the Head of External Relations and the Group Head of Marketing and Communications with reputation and issues management
  • Manage daily media monitoring, and associated services, and help produce communications analyses to demonstrate media impact
  • Spot, source and draft positive news stories from around the organisation to enhance reputation - including visiting sites on occasion and establishing relationships with key clinicians
  • Drive publication in media (taking ownership of the full communication lifecycle where necessary) to deliver maximum visibility
  • Bring, and develop, excellent relationships with the media, and create strong relationships with media staff teams in partner organisations
  • Supervise media filming and ensure appropriate consent is taken from patients and staff, and they are clear how the footage will be used
  • Develop patient case studies as required
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues in internal communications and marketing in London, Manchester and Berlin to ensure we co-ordinate and maximise the impact of our internal and external communications to meet business objectives
  • Be part of an out of hours rota as required (evenings, weekends and bank holidays)
  • Be confident to build strong internal relationships and provide expert counsel to the C-suite on external communications needs/opportunities
Profile* Proven track-record of generating creative PR ideas and placing them in the stories in media* Exceptional writing skills/grammar - ability to write to standard of national media (evidence of published work) and draft compelling press releases, features and comment* Experience working to shape bespoke communications plans* Experience in using social media platforms and creating content for social media* Strong experience of issues management (within healthcare an advantage)* Experience of/confidence to work with journalists at national level, including on negative issues* Positive and proactive, with ability to work confidently and autonomously* Ability to meet tight deadlines* Strong understanding of the health sector - and the politics of healthcare and the health economy - and a keen willingness to understand mental healthcare provision in the UK* Good knowledge of the external media environment* Strong journalistic skills of identifying and shaping key media lines* A level English* Educated to degree level* Experience of filming is an advantageJob Offer
  • Up to £50K base salary
  • Pension - 3% employer, 5% contributed by employee (or more if you wish)
  • 25 days off + your birthday, rising to 27 after 5 years and 30 after 10
