Job Description

The Senior Financial Controller manages a team of six and reports into the Chief Accountant. You will be responsible for the financial accounting for the business including subsidiaries and international offices.This newly created role will require you to work cross functionally and to ensure business compliance with policies, as well as delivering timely and accurate financial reporting to the wider Finance function and other teams.Client DetailsMy client is an internationally known and highly respected organisation who operate in the financial services and insurance space. However this role does not require specific sector experience as it focuses on its member organisations rather than policycreation.DescriptionThe Senior Financial Controller will directly manage a team of 6, and will report in to the Chief Accountant. You will be responsible tor the financial accounting for the business and its international subsidiaries.Specifically your role will include:

  • Responsibility for montly close and consolidation of trial balances, including all subsidiaries and international offices
  • Collaboration with the financial reporting, investment reporting, international teams, finance operations and FP&A teams to deliver accurate and timely results
  • Being accountable for creating an effective control environment over the general ledger and accounting function, including balance sheet reconciliation
  • Development and improvement of the financial accounting processes and controls
  • Developing a financial accounting risk register to ensure that risks are identified and mitigated against
  • Ensuring compliance with accounting policies
  • Training and developing staff understanding of the business, processes, responsibilities, risk management and financial control
  • Driving process and ledger system improvements to increase efficiencies
  • Supporting the financial reporting function to ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory and technical accounting requirements
  • Involvement in internal and external audit processes
  • Building strong relationships internally and externally
  • Implementing enhancements agreed by senior management
ProfileThe successful candidate for this senior financial controller position will be fully qualified, most likely ACA from a Top 10 Accountancy firm.You will have excellent management sills gained within a corporate environment outside of accountancy practice, and will be technically strong, with practical knowledge of relevant financial standards and accounting principles. (UK GAAP, IFRS)Experience gained within financial services / insurance organisations may be beneficial but are not essential. You will, however have worked in large / corporate organisations in a similar financial control capacity.This role is based 3 days per week in the office (Chatham), with 2 days per week at home. Occasional visits to London may be required.Job OfferExcellent package and corporate benefits accompany a fantastic base salary.
  • Base up to circa £90,000
