An exciting opportunity to work in a special school in Chard, that supports those with autistic spectrum disorder. This would be a fantastic opportunity for a candidate who is wanting a rewarding career within education, or someone with an extensive background in care who is looking to implement theirskills into a new role.All pupils have a special education need as their primary need as well as sensory and nurturing needs. They are an approved independent special school key stage 2 up to secondary and post 16.This job will involve a high amount of supervision. Many of the students generally arrive with a history of poor attendance, placement gaps and exclusions from school and have therefore missed (often hugely significant) periods of education. They believethat engaging with learning is the key to young people achieving success. They provide a creative, active and exciting curriculum that aims to inspire, stimulate and motivate all our young people.The headteacher is looking for a fantastic candidate who is positive, patient and willing to workas a team to handle challenging situations in a high pressure environment.
  • Provide specialized assistance to individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities
  • Support individuals in their daily activities and routines
  • Implement behaviour support plans and strategies
  • Assist with educational and therapeutic activities
  • Foster a positive and inclusive environment for individuals with special needs
  • Collaborate with a team of professionals to ensure the well-being and progress of individuals
Is is essential that prior to your application you have:
  • Experience working with individuals with autism or other developmental disabilities
  • Knowledge of special education principles and practices
  • Ability to effectively communicate and engage with individuals of all ages
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to make a difference in the lives of others
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
Commencing in January, this will be a full time position, working Monday to Friday, term time only, between the hours of 8:30am - 4:30pm.
