Job Description

Injection Moulding ManagerLocation: Castle BromShift: Days – 40 hours per week.Pay Rate: £45.00 per hourContract: OngoingIR35: Inside IR35Job Purpose:The role is the manager responsible for developing the process, flow analysis and tooling design for c. 3500 t injection moulding processes for the manufacture of parts for vehicles.Main Responsibilities:Accountable for the development of:

  • Tooling Design –the design of the tooling associated with injection moulding of bumpers and other plastic components to be used across the manufacturing of JLR vehicles. Issue the drawings for in house manufacture or external procurement. For external take a leading role in procurement, cost rationalisation and project management. This is an ongoing requirement as components are added to the catalogue. Work with the equipment designers to optimise and standardise.
  • Process Design – design the process to suit the individual component being manufactured. To include material selection and specification. Treatment of the material. Waste treatment. Issue the process documentation. Work with experts to coordinate processes like painting and assembly.
  • Flow Analysis – flow of the material into the mould and iteration of the tool and injection point designs to give a good result. Record the results.
  • Machine selection – initially the assignment will include selection and specification of a suitable machines for the process from material storage through to scrap reclaim.
  • Project & Site Management - as part of the wider team, for the complete management from the initial concept, cost analysis, initial and detailed design (hardware & software) and working with the site team to do site setup, operational on-site management (R&MS, supervision, snagging, commissioning, and handover) and ongoing client liaison.
  • Be a contributing stakeholder in the development of the Manufacturing Operating System for Project Management. This is the standard operating system of how we project manage projects, including approach, procedures, how we manage timing, contractors, the design, manufacture, installation, commissioning, and handover phases.
  • Spares Strategy – Develop in conjunction with the wider ME team a spare parts strategy for the department. This may be via a third-party involvement or back to holding critical spares but must look to consolidate spares across the company.
  • Maintenance Strategy - Working with the wider ME team develop a maintenance strategy for the equipment.
  • Innovation - Innovation and New Technology, bench marking, industry trends and latest applications.
  • People – Create a team that is dynamic and flexible to grow to the company’s needs.
  • Experience & Skills Required:
  • Experienced in large thin-walled injection moulding projects, ideally on components with a cosmetic finish.
  • Working knowledge of the machinery directive and subsequent standards to ensure equipment is safe to use.
  • Experience in managing multi-million-pound projects and working collaboratively.
  • Relevant previous experience of injection moulding machinery specification, procurement, installation, and commissioning.
  • Experience in managing external service providers.
  • Machinery regulations and industrial safety systems.
  • Working to tight deadlines and innovating to achieve timing.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Legislative and Industry Standards in industrialisation.
  • Proven Project Management Experience
  • Essential:
  • 10 years’ experience in large thin-walled injection moulding projects, ideally on components with a cosmetic finish.
  • Working knowledge of the machinery directive and subsequent standards to ensure equipment is safe to use.
  • 10 years’ experience in managing multi-million-pound projects for cost, time, and quality; and working collaboratively in a large corporation to achieve results.
  • Experience in specifying, procuring, installing, and commissioning injection moulding and ancillary/related equipment such as feeders, shredders and so on.
  • Flexibility to be able to operate across all JLR locations, which on some occasions may result in significant time (several weeks) overseas or away from home.
  • Desirable:
  • Painting and assembly of plastic painted automotive components.
  • Experience of installation site management
  • Knowledge of Maintenance Management Systems
