The Electoral Commission has an exciting new opportunity for a Senior Welsh Language Advisor to join their team.Location: Cardiff/home basedStarting salary: £32,448Job Type: Full time, permanentSenior Welsh Language Advisor – Us:Are you interested in bringing your experience to an organisation that plays a vital role in the democratic process The Electoral Commission is the independent body which oversees elections and regulates political finance in the UK. The Electoral Commission is committed to the principle that in its conduct of public business and provision of resources and services, the Welsh and English languages should be treated on a basis of equality.The remit of the Electoral Commission, Wales includes all areas of work relating to those electoral events taking place in Wales. This includes the annual household canvass, and elections to the Senedd, UK Parliament, Police and Crime Commissioners and local government. We focus on the issues that affect Wales and ensure that views of stakeholders in Wales are represented in our work. You will play a key part in helping us to achieve this.Senior Welsh Language Advisor - Key Skills and Requirements:- We are looking for an experienced, engaged and proactive person to be the key contact at the Electoral Commission for matters relating to meeting and adhering to the Welsh language standards set by the Welsh Language Commissioner, as well as managing the Commission’s translation process and supporting our communications work.Senior Welsh Language Advisor - The Role:- This role is critical to ensuring that the Commission meets its statutory responsibilities in terms of the Welsh language standards- You will act as the Commission’s first point of contact for internal and external queries relating to the - Welsh language and will also maintain an effective relationship with the Office of the Welsh Language Commissioner- Supporting teams across the Commission and providing Welsh language awareness training sessions to staff will be equally important- You will manage the translation process and budget to ensure that the Electoral Commission has effective plans in place to fulfil its translation requirements, either in-house or through out-sourcing of work and providing translations in-house when required- You will be expected to play a full and important role within the Wales team, to be expected to become familiar with all areas of the Commission’s work, and to develop a close working relationship with colleagues based at various locations across the UK- This will involve supporting partnership and communication work in Wales, acting as the point of contact on election media campaigns, coordinating the work of the Welsh Language Advisory Group and working with the Equalities Advisor and various internal groups on equalities issuesWe offer excellent terms and conditions, including flexible working hours and the opportunity to join the Civil Service pension arrangements (dependant on scheme rules).The closing date for applications is 23:45 28thth April 2021.Interviews will be held on 12th May 2021.We would like to continuously increase the diversity of our employees.
