The Packet is a wonderful example of a historic Cardiff pub, having been built in 1864, and is regarded as the last remaining pub from the times when Cardiff Bay was alive with trade, sending welsh coal to all corners of the globe! It has retained its intrinsic character through all the recent developments in the area and continues to be a safe haven for sailors, and non-sailors, alike, in fact anyone after a good pint and some great company. The pub, like the area it is in, is not short on good stories ready to be told over a drink or two. It has a single bar servery, a large trading area and a secure garden to the rear of the pub. There is history everywhere, from the pictures on the walls tothe stained glass windows on the exterior, reminding us that the pub has been in use for over 150 years. The area has been heavily invested in over the last 20 years and now boasts an impressive line-up of hospitality operators. It is close to the waterfront, which attracts tourists and residents alike, a stones throw from the Wales Millennium Centre and the WelshSenedd, formerly known as the Welsh Assembly, and a mere 20 minute walk to Cardiff city centre. New residents have moved in to the area, attracted by the waterfront living that developers have created and yet the Packet remains the one "true" pub in the area,a unique selling point if ever there was one.
