Job Description

The Senior Partnerships Manager will identify new partnerships and strengthen existing ones. This is a demanding role that requires the individual to work with 10 wide-ranging AKDN multi-sector, profit and not-for-profit development and service agencies and institutions, present in 30+ countries. Working alongside them, the Senior Partnerships Manager facilitates the pursuit of new funding opportunities with European and Asian institutional donors, foundations and corporates. He/she will also manage a set of grants.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND CORE TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES1 Resource Mobilisation

  • Support the Partnerships team in brokering new relationships and strengthening existing ones with European and Asian institutional, foundations and corporate donors
  • Lead the review and strengthening of concept notes and proposals across a wide array of sectors
  • Develop and contribute to positioning pieces and communication materials (e.g. presentations, narrative overviews) to enable regular and effective engagement with donors
  • Prepare donor briefs and talking points for donor meetings, referencing latest donor strategies, field-level discussions and possible donor/AKDN matches to consider positioning during meetings
  • Establish close synergies with AKF’s North America units, AKF’s Head Office, AKF field units, relevant AKDN agencies and AKDN representatives
  • Where appropriate, conduct donor or field visits to support discussions with new and existing strategic donors/partners ensuring consistent and coherent messaging
  • 2 Grants management
  • Manage grants through regular coordination with relevant AKDN agencies/field units and AKF(UK)’s programme finance department to ensure projects are delivered on-time and on-budget; proactively support the resolution of challenges as they arise
  • Support the preparation, review and feedback process on donor reports to ensure reports comply with donor requirements and are produced on time and to a high standard
  • Be an interface with donors and communicate on a regular basis about the implementation of on-going grants in order to maintain a solid relationship and to address queries or challenges effectively
  • 3 Networking and building public awareness
  • Participate and actively engage in relevant networking events/conferences to build awareness of AKDN with the UK and European public more broadly
  • Interface with the Communications team to identify opportunities and support the planning of events either directly targeting or planned jointly with AKF(UK)’s institutional donors (e.g., FCDO, KfW).
  • 4 Leadership and People Management
  • Play a leadership role in the unit by setting the example of consistently high standards
  • Work with the Partnerships Officers to develop donor and inter-institutional relationships, develop and improve quality of concept notes/proposals and effectively manage grants
  • Filter the team and units documents ensuring improvements in standards of writing, presentation, content and context

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field highly preferable

  • Knowledge
  • Strong proven understanding and knowledge of the UK/European donor landscape
  • Knowledge and commitment to international development and improving knowledge of these issues a distinct advantage
  • Experience
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience working in international organisations or donor agencies, including field-level implementation or management, and at least 6 total years of professional experience.
  • Experience in resource mobilisation and developing relationships, including direct experience with European (EU/EC, Germany, Norway, Sweden, UK) or Asian donors
  • Experience in developing and writing proposals and arguments, business plans/cases, concept papers, briefs, executive summaries, as well as coordinating multiple inputs from a variety of sources, and simultaneously managing a variety of relationships
  • Proven experience of managing relationships in complex organisations with numerous stakeholders
  • Proven success in managing grants in complex organisations with numerous stakeholders
