Senior Assessment Officer High Holborn, LondonCirca £45,000 pa (depending on skills) (Plus a benefit allowance of £1,300 per annum)35 hours per week - Full-timeMaternity Cover for up to 9 monthsOur client regulates barristers and their professional practice and specialised legal services businesses in England and Wales in the public interest. They are responsible for setting education and training requirements, setting standards, authorising organisations, monitoring the service provided, and investigating allegations of misconduct, taking enforcement action where necessary. It is an exciting time at the organisation, having recently modernised the way they regulate in the public interest, support those they regulate to face the future, and ensure there is a strong and sustainable regulator for the Bar.About the Contact and Assessment TeamTheir Contact and Assessment Team is primarily responsible for assessing all information that is received. This information includes reports about barristers’ conduct and other information relating to the legal market. When information is received, the Contact and Assessment Team identifies regulatory issues, undertakes risk assessments, and determines whether regulatory action is necessary. Such action can include Supervisory action and Disciplinary Action as well as more informal regulatory responses.The team rests in the Regulatory Operations Department but works collaboratively across all departments. This enables CAT to effectively identify which department (or departments) would be best placed to act on information received. CAT also fields, at first instance, all general enquiries about their processes and their Handbook.Senior Assessment OfficerThey are looking to appoint a full-time qualified barrister or solicitor (or equivalent) within the Contact and Assessment Team.The Senior Assessment Officer is primarily responsible for the assessment of incoming information about those regulated by them and taking decisions on whether complaints should be referred for consideration of enforcement, or other types of action. The role is expected to deal with the more complex cases and provide casework advice and line management to the other members of the Contact and Assessment Team (CAT). Working in conjunction with the Head of CAT, the Senior Assessment Officer will also assist in the monitoring of team caseloads and performance against KPIs.The successful candidate will have an excellent understanding of the legal system in England and Wales. They would ideally have experience of working in professional regulation and demonstrable experience in managing a high volume caseload and experience of performance management against KPIs. They will also have the ability to draft high quality correspondence clearly setting out reasons for decisions taken.
